No, ending up lonely have much more to do with how you interact with people than how do you look. People who are bad at approaching people, or are bad at maintaining relationships are the people who end up alone.
Besides there are many Subcultures that reject mainstream beauty ideals and substitute them for alternate ideals.
Most importantly though, body weight is not the only element that determine is someone is good looking. Being healthy, well groomed and with good body symmetry always comes first.
One can easily reject the ideal that the thinner the better and still maintain a good look.
But the unhappiest women alive are ones who reject those standards of beauty and end up single when they’re 50.
So I would argue it does more good than harm personally.
