I think the fandom’s hateboner for him would be too powerful and they would paint him and/or his group as the cause of the problems, maybe even tampering with the sun/moon amulet to “teach Twi a lesson.”

The hateboner is fairly tame compared to the early days of the fandom where every day you had fanart of him being assaulted by OCs or male characters they are self inserting as (spike or Mac mostly)
 
Not to mention that this wouldn’t have been an issue if they didn’t neglect him for so long that his entire character is based on a 3 minutes date with Rarity
 
Why is a Prince, member of the royal family and a character with one of the best designs in the show so underused?

Sometimes I wonder if people would woobify and waifu him if he ended up being a mare who went on a date with like, idk, Spike or something instead, or was just a random dick who happened to be female. People flock to those in this fandom.

She wasn’t really portrayed as all that sympathetic in her debut back in S2, made pretty clear that it was mostly about power, yet look what happened.
 
Yes, unlike Blueblood, she was (and still is, at least for now) actively villainous, but you get the point.

Technically Blueblood is relatively popular compared to his screentime  
He gets more fanfics and Art than characters who had entire episodes dedicated to them
