Season 6 Episode Discussion [Speculation/Theories/Beware of Spoilers]

Okay, now I understand why I was so conflicted. There’s absolutely no subtlety there: Trixie came to Ponyville to commit suicide. There’s absolutely no way anyone sane would choose a town which dislikes them so much to pull off that kind of stunt. What was even her initial plan before Beta Sunset Shimmer came along? Hoping that Twilight would come to her show and realize she was in danger and teleport her out of the manticore? No, she wanted to “apologize” by offing herself publicly.
 
Just like how DPDOMS did with depression and self-harm, this episode expects us to see the conflict as something that’s easy to solve. Just tell them to “get over it”, or become their friend and EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT. It just rubs me the wrong way.

I wouldn’t say that reduces her potential Sue-ness.

That’s one way to see it but as I said above Twilight knows very little about Trixie.  
And while what Glimmer did was way worse Twilight saw that she didn’t think things would turn out that way, saw how she became that way and also personally talked her down. I think that keeping her around as a student IS part of her repentance because Twilight can keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn’t go down the wrong path.  
Which might have been why Twilight was extremely hesitant to let her be friends with Trixie:  
Trixie while not as bad as Glimmer was was something of a risk simply because Twilight didn’t know where the Trixie stood in regards to their little rivalry.

Seems like there’s a lot of people complaining that a) Twilight is out of character or b) Starlight is drifting dangerously close to Mary Sue territory.

Tippy and PonyPon here make fine points with Starlight.
 
And with Twilight, I didn’t feel that way, she just had a fair amount of scepticism about things, I won’t spoil the episode for you, but I think if anything, this episode shows that none of them are “perfect Mary Sues” at all.

Starlight is reaching Roman Reigns territory (to use a wrestling thing that only ice will understand)
 
I don’t think there’s anything the writers can do to make Starlight gell with everyone. There’s too much inherant ill will in the very concept of the character. Everyone will look at everything she does or everything that happens to her in the worst imaginable light.

Trixie wasn’t planning on doing that act until she was telling Starlight about it and Starlight got excited and said she could help her do it.

It’s episodes like these that point out that Twilight is really no better than anyone else (in some ways she’s even worse), only the fact she was Chosen By Destiny got her where she is now. Not really by any of her own merits, but she lucked out at getting a group of close friends, becoming a princess (and Celestia’s personal student before that) all because it was Foretold by Destiny and really nothing else. The Tree of Harmony and (it’s implied) Starswirl knew what she was going to become thousands of years before she was born, and it all began with the Rainboom which was just that important.
 
Trixie, Moondancer and Sunset Shimmer are three alternate versions of herself, pretty much. None of which were fortunate enough to be singled out like she was.

Well, Starlight isn’t number 1 in the Royal Rumble to defend her Equestrian Heavyweight championship only to sleep in the back for half of it.

I can certainly see where you’re coming from. Seems to me that you can enjoy a darker tone of MLP. I just think that

She took Starlight in because she was powerful. Again, some Princess of Friendship.
 
Gah! The more I think about it, Starlight is to Twilight exactly how Twilight is to Celestia. The former makes the latter look ever more horrible the more they’re written together!

I wouldn’t say something as general as “ that you can enjoy a darker tone of MLP”, but in the case of the episode it works for me.
 
See people a rousing discussion with no animosity attached. You heard me out and that’s all I ask. Anything you want me to clarify on my end?

Leave other people have their own opinions instead of doing your habitual spectacle of screechung and running in circles claiming that since YOU enjoyed something, EVERYONE else is forced to do it and there’s no room for other opinions except for your own.
 
I know you have several mental issues but that’s still not an excuse to always act like a toxic moron whenever a new comic or episode pops up.

This. I may disagree with your views on the episode, but I’m sure we can at least agree with how such actions is a less than civil way to go about it.
