Spike Discussion- Brother or son?

Ever since the 200th episode of Friendship is Magic, I saw people happy that it was finally cemented on what Spike was to Twilight- a brother. However, again, the fandom is spit, because I saw that at the same time, there were others who brought up “Father Knows Beast”, and how it had been established that Spike was more like Twilight’s son, the moment he broker her heart saying “she’s not his real mom”.
 
Here’s how I see it. Because Twilight was given Spike’s egg, back in Celestia’s school- because she was the one who hatched him- because she was the one who raised him. SHE sees herself as Spike’s parent, and rightfully so.
 
However, Spike sees himself more as her (and Shining Armor’s) baby brother, and has always wanted that dynamic. I think this has always been established, ever since the episode of season 1’s “Winter Wrap Up”, where he wakes up, looks at Twilight, and outright tells her “you’re not my mommy”. His behavior has never indicated that he viewed Twilight as a mother figure.
 
I like the different mentalities as to what familial position each one views the other, and it makes things more interesting, I think, for them to be of different mindsets.

For what’s worth, back then Faust said that as far her and the series were concerned, the one who raised Spike and taught him how to breathe magic fire was Celestia, not Twilight.

It’s sort of both I think. Like, on one hand they refer to him as their brother and treat him as such, but have we ever seen ANYONE other than Twilight act like a mother to him? :D

I think he’s essentially considered to be both, similar to lilo from Lilo and Stitch. Yes, she is Nani’s biological sister but Nani also has act like a mother as well.
