I was born in 1984 right when these were in their first years and happen’n
My mom started buying the ponies for me when I was a baby. No memory of what age I was but I watched the 80’s cartoon religiously, even if episodes were reruns I watched them anyway and reenacted the shows with my toys
My biggest happiest memories were shopping at a Yard Birds Mall in my area and my mom buying me the ponies and itcwas the happiest thing ever. That store flooded out the same year gen 1 ponies came to an end, and I remember buying my very last gen 1 pony if store shelves, covered in caked dirt and mud.
Then gen 1 died, along with that mall 😥
After that, that mall became a giant swapmeet with a grocery store on one side. They sell lots of thrift and abandoned storage unit items, and to this day I LOVE THAT SWAPMEET AND STILL FIND AND BUY PONIES OF ALL GENERATIONS THERE!!!!! Even gen 1!!! I’ve found some fantastic gen 4 princess ponies there for my art, as well.
Yard Birds is still my happy place, and I even find perfect treasures there for gifts.
About a few times a month, I have pony dreams. Dreams where I’m at random stores/buildings/places and finding limitless amounts of gen 1 ponies to grab. Sometimes the dreams include all generations.
I have had done where I had to hurry up and make a decision on a budget to grab gen 1 Mountain Boy ponies or another one, while the area around me was flooding. I know I have those dreams cause a devastating flood wiped out my favorite childhood store and “put it under”, literally.
I think there was even a store employee canoeing around me in the dream, telling me to hurry up and get out of there 😂
Also, I put my childhood collection of gen 1 ponies up in a attic after Yard Birds went down with the ship.
Got them back out in my late teen years to admire them and decided they are a life long treasure. I have them in a special chest, no plans of selling them for profit.
I keep adding to it once ana while but am not active in the collector community otherwise I’d be in debt lol
And I still enjoy finding newly produced gen 1 march in stores!
I got a large bag, that got admired at EverfreeNW convention, I have socks, mugs, clothing and Basic Fun Toys is even doing new productions of the vintage ponies!
So this is proof and assurance that whenever a pony generation changes, it never dies or just goes away.
And I think that is something the gen 4 random should know right now. 😊
The show may change, but the ponies never just go away!
This is why I just like all gens of mLP. I was so sad that gen 1 went away but was so happy to see Hasbro release all the newer gens, and I like all of them even the ones that were flops.
