Don’t call people “an infection”.
@Maya
True, and generally I agree, but I really wanted to see how someone would respond to this, because the cognitive dissonence that must exist there confuses me. How can someone decry Western culture for being sexist, then turn around and extol middle-eastern culture that does things like that?
I don’t honestly really have a problem with hijabs or Islam in principle, it’s more the application of them and violence being used to enforce them - ie, the culture that’s come up around them.
But hey, I’m Mormon, and Utah Mormon culture often bothers me, so I even say the same thing about my own religion… Except, it’s kind of an annoyance vs. executing 13-year old girls, so, one is a bit greater in magnitude than the other.
We just don’t know when to stop, even if it’s obviously bad for us.
dude, one thing is celebrating multiculturalism, and other thing is defending what´s obiously wrong, just because it a “cultural-religious thing.”
To be fair, Alvre was completely entitled to draw whatever she liked. If you don’t like something, then don’t like it and move on.
Because we should celebrate different cultures with multiculturalism!… But at the same time, taking things from other cultures is “cultural appropriation”? Yeah, I don’t understand tumblr-ites, SJW’s, progressives, liberals, whatever you want to call them. Their logic… Isn’t.
Long story…
Something about “cultural appropriation” and stuff?
Because an Arabian girl can’t take a hijab off in 100*F heat to go to the sea with her friends and chat without being beaten for it because Islam, and some people think it’s terrible to think that’s not okay.
Personally the artist made me uncomfortable because they said a lot of racist sounding stuff about white people & I’m half white.
That only accounts for some of the drama though, I didn’t actually downvote this.
So why the drama and all the downvote?
I’m sure they can.
There was no racism in the comments, the artist just had a tantrum and accused any detractors of it.
Guys what the fuck
There is no problem trying to imitate other cultures different from your mother culture. Just as long as you do it right. However, personally, I don’t have any problems with people stereotyping my culture for fun. Stereotypes happen. It become offensive if one tries to use it as a “accurate” reference.
Edited
He’s not beating women for failure to wear a hijab in 100F+ heat. He’s just expressing that in his view supporting a culture that beats women for wearing a hijab in 100F+ is wrong. That’s how his “hatecrimes” are different.
Yeah that’s complete bull. Coverings became part of Islamic tradition because they helped protect from the sun (kind of like how circumcision became part of Jewish tradition because it helped prevent infections), and how are you being any different from the boogeymen you’re whining about? You’re the one attacking people for wearing clothing that you deem unacceptable in your society. You know the majority of hatecrimes committed in the UK last year were against women wearing Islamic-looking clothes, so think about who here is being forced to dress differently for fear of being attacked, and next time double check to make sure your mouth is outside of your rectum.
Still a well drawn piece though.
pretty much
A woman under a secular government would not look like this, their head coverings are often glorified fashion statements. They would be wearing otherwise unremarkable modern clothing or more colorful, (stereotypical, historical,) traditional dress. If a woman dresses specifically like this, she is either desperately poor, required to by her family or the police, or fears being raped or attacked with acid in public.
I don’t understand how someone (this artist) can have such firm opinions about a subject they seem to know so little about. They have either willfully ignored thousands of years of history or they are intentionally trolling the site mods knowing that they will step in. You can clearly see they are not a Muslim and they are intentionally posting inflammatory comments to rile up commenters. Why else would someone be so aggressive and publicly post an image like >>938387? They know how you’re going to react, there is no possible way they could bastardize this culture so so severely and accuse others of racism/ignorance/“whitewashing.”
They are just expecting you to ban anyone who takes the bait.
Edited because: Rule #7
Sounds like a place that’s doing a lot better to overcome racism than Alabama is :q I suppose that shouldn’t be too surprising, though, Alabama doesn’t have the best track record for that, heh.
