Curving the ball is exactly how the pros get strikes with regularity; the optimum aim point for a strike is the space between the 1 and 3 pin for a right-hoofed bowler, and you pretty much have to introduce a counterclockwise spin to make it curve left in order to hit it.

Unless she is planning on putting a spin on it to make it curve, her math is unnecessary. Since the x has a degree of 2 it means the ball would move in a parabolic motion, not a straight line.

I think if it wasn’t there just for fun, you’d have to solve a system of equations. Here we have a reverse one at that. Substitute X from 3-rd equation into the second equation and then into the first one to find force, angle and initial position. Something like that =P
