I get it when it’s a halloween costume like “sexy geisha” or “sexy Indian”, but the hair is.. .well, not very concerning.
 
When I was in Art History and doing a debate on the Parthenon, some dumb bitch compared the British Museum refusing to giving them back & the Greeks building the Parthenon, to Mexicans. I’m mostly Hispanic/Mexican American, and I thought this was the dumbest comparison I’ve ever heard.

That’s a redundancy, and I’m absolutely sure there’s at least five costumes out there marked like that.  
I mean, aren’t they supposed to be alluring?

I’m just saying, I can see why people would be offended and say cultural appropriation with those costumes of traditional wear/items.
 
I mean I’m also part Asian and Native American, and it bugs me at times with the sexy native american costume worn by a blonde hair blue eyed white person, but I turn the other cheek and judge silently.

We all descend from a small handful of homo-sapiens in sub-sahara Africa. Our DNA is 99.5% the same as every other living human being.
 
Looking through this lens, most concepts of cultural appropriation are flawed, as it’s a shared culture born from being human.
 
 
That being said, if it’s blatantly offensive, done with malice, or made in mockery, then I can see calling foul.

Yea, there are technically no “pure” cultures outside of uncontacted ones. Every modern culture is formed from eons of cultural mixing. Trade routes especially led to the mass distribution of cultural systems.

I’m pale and I went as Jasmine for Halloween a few years ago.
 
It’s a really sticky situation. :/ Disney vs actual culture mixing is a whole new addition to it and I’m like, hm. I mean I get a little offended over the Native American costume, but I’m not completely butt hurt and would go forth and attack someone.

My thought is, if she’s going dressed as Princess Jasmine, it’s clearly not because she hates Princess Jasmine or is racist. It’s likely because she likes or admires Princess Jasmine enough to want to dress as her.
