In practice, they’re not even really good for that. Even drivers who aren’t enthusiasts often find them unpleasant to drive, to the point that most of them can be set to imitate traditional automatics.
Like I said, CVT benefits are mostly theoretical at this point. The physics are there, though, once someone actually puts in the effort and makes a solid one with sport-oriented programming. (It still won’t be as fun as stickshifts or flappy paddles, though.)
