There were two game shows iirc. The chief was a black woman, I think that’s the only thing the new cartoon uses. Everything else comes from the cartoon that came a little later. The organizations VILE and ACME, Zack and Ivy, Player, etc.

SO what’s the thrust of this new show RT has?

the year is 2066. it’s all about this new civil war in america that started with the union (bad guys) dropping a nano tech bomb on new york…and that about all the main plot we have so far.
 
most of the last 3 episodes have been about the characters about getting to know the characters and them getting to know each other as they learn to pilot a new kind of mechs by digitizing their brains.

That was more of a 2017 thing but I did hear about that once his six month leave ended.

I find it very very odd that Butch Hartman, a big Christian, approved of a Christmas episode of FOP where Christmas was replaced by another holiday.

So, I saw some of the scrapped drafts for the 3rd SpongeBob movie.

Well, christian bronies (like myself) weren’t bothered by Christmas being replaced by “Hearth’s Warming,” and in the Pony world it actually makes more sense all their similar holidays would have different names.  
Nightmare Night = Halloween.  
Hearts & Hooves = Valentine’s.
 
Makes you wonder if they have a “Shamrock Day,” or a “Princess’s Day,” and such.

That’s because in MLP, those holidays are meant to be their versions of real world holidays. You would need to see this FOP episode to understand what I’m talking about.

Continuing my rewatch of The Dragon Prince. Gotta admit, claiming that Rayla was going to kill him and Ezran was a bad move on Callum’s part. I still don’t get why he did that instead of just explaining to Aunt Amaya what was really going on.

I still can’t tell if Amaya is deaf or just mute. She communicates in sign language, but half the time people are talking to her and she’s understanding them without Gren translating what they’re saying for her.

Amaya’s deaf. She reads people’s lips. I imagine that little detail is necessary to keep scenes with her flowing.

Gotta say, I do like how unique the elves’ designs are in TDP compared to other shows.  
 
The unique skin colors, the horns, and the fact that they only have four fingers are all interesting touches. There are a lot of things about this show that feel derivative… this isn’t one of them.

Okay, Bait is an inferior animal companion to Appa and Momo.
 
Those two at least help out the gang and even have some asskicking moments. Meanwhile, it feels like all Bait ever does is lie around and get the main characters into trouble.

High Fantasy is probably the most derivative genre in fiction (Tolkien leads the way). I mean a lot of these elements aren’t changed because honestly, they don’t need to be. The formula of humans in a magical medieval setting with elves, monsters, and dragons has worked in its own particular way for over 50 years somehow.

Yeah, I get that, but when compared to the unique world and characters of Avatar, this feels a bit derivative. Maybe I should stop comparing them, but it’s kind of hard to when they are so similar and have some of the same people involved.

I suppose, but Avatar isn’t High Fantasy. It’s a great big homage to Anime (too many shout outs to count). It’s magical system isn’t even magic, it’s just a really flashy form of martial arts.
 
Comparing TDP with ATLA is pretty easy, I’ll admit. It’s certainly feels like its successor more than Korra. Which only has a passing visual resemblance to it.

Maybe with season two, it will be easier to think of TDP as its own thing as opposed to constantly comparing it to A:TLA. I’d love to see this show become more fleshed out and rise above the shadow of Aaron Ehasz and Giancarlo Volpe’s previous work.
