Unlike the balloon, this object was at 40,000’ which is well into being a hazard to air traffic. It was reported to be a silver/gray cylinder with no signs of propulsion. Reportedly the water is frozen over where it was shot down so it will be an easy recovery.
I think things are about to get interesting.

In a statement about the arrest of NewsNation reporter @EvanLambertTV, Ohio National Guard Major Gen. John Harris, who is seen on camera putting his hand on Lambert and pushing him, claims he was “convinced” Lambert was prepared to harm him.

A major railroad corporation basically just set off a chemical bomb in a U.S. town and the National Guard arrests a journalist instead of any of the responsible parties.

As if that wasn’t bad enough (probably the worst though), the railroad company has pledged to spend a grand total of $25000 in damages.

$25k. The CEO is gonna spend more than that to fly to the town to give a pithy speech. At around 5000 residents or so impacted reported, that’s about $5 per person.

Edit: On a related note: CSX gives 5,000 employees 4 days of sick leave
Nowhere near a major victory though. Maybe it will signal the class 1 railroads giving it on their own but I doubt it.

So my country recently had a currently serving Minister of Parliament join a company as a political lobbyist(Yes, while still serving in Parliament). Now, that person has been shifted to a different job in the company, and I quote “ became clear to the [People’s Action Party] that she would be expected to engage regularly with government ministries and agencies on public policy issues on behalf of Grab”

To which a Facebook comment succinctly describes what’s wrong with the comment

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, men in the army/civil defense are forbidden from having part time jobs. Every man in Singapore is forced to join the army/civil defense as part of our national service program

So ministers making >$190,000 a year can have second jobs but conscripts making around $600 every month can’t even have a part time job as a side gig

Unlikely, it’s probably the smallest thing the Biden admin managed to get them to agree to while giving them a free pass. Railroad workers are still organizing to keep going because they haven’t had any of their demands actually met.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk Southern workers in the rail have long warned that the system is falling apart, if not just near Palestine, Ohio. They’ve petitioned NS to actually do something but they refuse, and no one else has listened until it happened, so now an entire small town gets a toxic vinyl coating.

Also no administration has bothered to intervene, and when they have the companies drag their feet. Obama penned regulations mandating the railroad companies update their brakes to modern standards and not keep using even Civil War era braking. But no administration since has ever bothered to enforce it.

Russia is expected to start a new offensive soon. Putin hoped to break through Ukrainian defenses before the offensive, to force Ukrainians to use up their reserves. So far it has failed, and Russian offensive will face fresh and ready Ukrainian reserve units. On top of that, there is limited time for the offensive before it gets bogged down in mud because of warmer and rainy weather. And some time after that, Western heavy equipment arrives. So it’s not looking good for our friends clad in cotton wool jackets.
