Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against commercials, but the VGAs are supposed to be a ceremony and to give awards to the people who design games. Because of that, and especially how “MLG pro” these ceremonies are, we need more decades until the videogame industry starts to be taken seriously.
It’s kinda ironic, because the people who want the videogames to be treated like art are the same ones who don’t want the gaming industry to evolve. You just have to watch the user score of The Last of Us 2 in Metacritic. But I think both approaches can coexist: Inmersive stories (like the Fumito Ueda games and Firewatch) and stupid silly games (like Smash Bros).
