I’m kinda hoping for some kind of martial artist Earth Pony, who can “short out” magic through special grabs and stuff.

You know, just for once I’d like to see a keikaku doori-type villain who gets caught completely flat-footed, and then he admits he just lucked out all those times and he’s really good at bluffing.

I’m picturing a scene of a sinister figure sitting at a desk, a minion comes in a delivers a report of a terrible defeat. The sinister figure says “yes… exactly as planned, you see by doing X they allowed me to accomplish Y” with a raised eyebrow.
 
After the minion leaves the sinister figure desperately grabs for a drawer in his desk pulls out a flask and takes a long pull. Then he says “holy shit I can’t believe that actually worked!”

Might make a good story actually. Some hapless yuts stumbles into the job of Machiavellian super villain and basically has to bullshit his way through. hmmm…
 
Makes me wish I was a better writer.

I’m expecting one of the next Season opener or ending antagonists to be somebody or something that was in Tartarus.

What is needed is a villain with a lot of personality.
 
Im thinking someone like Khan from Star Trek TOS. Incredibly flamboyant, egotistical and supremely confident.  
His villainy came from his arrogance and his willingness to do anything.

Honestly, with no references to go for for next season’s villains, my best bet is possibly Twilight. Maybe Twi’s dark side(however little she has of one.) Splits off from her own personality, and she has to battle it, physically and/or mentally.
 
Hopefully they get something interesting like that, but theres always the worry that they might just go down the route of “giant evil monster that can’t even talk”. Think something like sombra, but at least he had an interesting(if barely described or talked about.) backstory, and his character design looked pretty good.
