Twilight did nothing wrong. Like, if some criminal was threatening your family, I’ll bet you’d try to hurt or intimidate him in self-defense and in the defense of your family. Twilight had a villain threatening her entire country, and the worst she did was “steal” something that the owner had already told Twilight that she could borrow before changing their mind at the last minute, just as she was going to get it. Bit of a dick move there, no?

I don’t trace but I do use references and in this specific example the person who commissioned it requested that I make spike look exactly like that image, even linking it directly (which people who commission my work can do, I don’t mind) so I opened the image in a separate window and drew it using my eyes rather than a direct trace. If it were up to me I’d have changed the angle since working from my brain is actually easier then using references as I’m not following someone else’s pre-made choices. Equally the reason I wouldn’t trace is it doesn’t blend with how I draw, I need some form of freedom even when copying a requested pose to make my own adjustments and tracing gives me no freedom to do that.
