I’m almost certain that when Equestria Girls was first proposed, the writers were given NO direction whatsoever about what the show was supposed to be other than a glorified toy commercial. I picture them sitting around saying, “well, ‘Sailor Moon’ was an incredible hit over in Japan. Why not make our girls into a magical girl team?”
