Never had them with marinara before. You’re onto something.

I loved my late mother very much, but she was, objectively speaking, a terrible cook. The things she did to zucchini and other squashes were best forgotten–boiling unpeeled zucchini slices in cheap supermarket brand pasta sauce being the least horrid of them. Childhood memories make me reject zucchini and its relatives with instinctive, uncontrollable revulsion, even though I know, intellectually, they’re just starchy vegetables without much strong flavor of their own. For pumpkin pie I make an exception, and even then, not every pumpkin pie passes the test.
 
It’s just as well that she never tried to make eggplant for us. I’d not be able to enjoy eggplant parmagiana or eggplant in lasagna now.

Zucchini and yellow squash are delicious sauteed and served over pasta in a light cheese sauce. FITE ME!

People always describe zucchini’s/courgette’s to me as “cucumber’s cousin” but oH MY GOD it is nothing like a cucumber. It’s awful.

Inverse situation: I worked in a chain pharmacy for a while and sometimes people would ask for OTC items with their deliveries. Not a big deal, it’s still medicine and it was right next to us. But eventually they started asking for anything else they wanted from the store, like one time I had to grab a bag of dog food.

I love zucchini and it actually is good. That said, you could bread and fry cardboard and dip it in marinara and it would be delicious.

I used to work next to a Thai place, used to trade food with them at closing. Every time they knew I was closing, they gave me like 5 pounds of fried zucchini. I loved that place.

Aren’t they just pretentious cucumbers?
