This is probably what could have happened in the season 6 finale on why Spike was captured too, lovebuggo just wants him :0

Well is a nice idea , but no need be based in season finale , can be from season 6 , the chapter from thorax and the hive, anyway ,details , i will like to see they relation of pen pals getting close, and chrysalis find out how helpful spike is and start love that side of him , because she’s a queen and she loves feeling loved!, And dont want spike go away from her

Here is the idea I had:
 
Chrysalis had magic left to free herself from the stone-prison, but it left her in a weak and downbeat state. She chooses then to hide inside a cave in the everfree forest where she lives now in „exile“. Cut off from any social activities, and love, she is starving and her body starts to „decay“.
 
One day Spike visits Zecora to get a potion for Twilight. On the way back he stumbles over the entrance oft he cave and finds Chrysalis in a horrible state. Dispite everything she did he can’t ingnore what his good nature is telling him and decides to help by allowing her to absorb some compassionate energy from him. He decides to keep that a secret before his friends.
 
He keeps visiting her until she is recovered (it might take a few days). Since too many visits to the everfree forest would eventually draw attention, he decides to bring Chrysalis a gift: Paper and ink. From now on the write letters to each other, which they send by using their magic (Spike’s fire breath).
 
And all those -> LETTERS TO THE CHANGELING QUEEN <- will eventually lead to this moment in the picture here, when Chrysalis want’s to keep Spike completely for herself and Spike is (maybe) forced to make a life changing decision.
 
And then… well… who knows.
