She ascended for beating a witch or something. There’s a whole book on it, and as far as I know, yes, it’s canon.
Now that just raises too many questions! How did Cadance “ascend”? Why was the place “shorting out”? Was her trauma not the loss of her original kingdom falling into King Sombra’s clutches?
Chapter 1: Celestia is missing Luna, feels another alicorn ascend, goes to the astral plane or whatever you wanna call it, finds the place shorting out for some reason and loses her shit…only to find Cadance who saw her go full Daybreaker and now has trauma.
Any with no narration/explanation can take time to get into. try Chapter 2 (>>3316140) - it begins to make more sense by the end. In particular, you start to get some context on Daybreaker’s seemingly random appearances.
