Description

Spike: “I can explain, Rarity!”

Rarity: “I should certainly hope so. I can’t believe you’ve been keeping something like this from me.”

Spike: “It’s not like that. Moondancer’s just an old friend”

Rarity: “When were you going to tell me you were nobility?”

Spike: “ Wait, you’re not upset about Moondancer?”

Rarity: “Upset? About her? Oh, Darling, please”

One of my many head-canons concerning our favorite baby dragon is that, having been raised by Princess Celestia, Spike is a prince by adoption. He keeps it on the down low because he gets more satisfaction out of being able to serve others rather than be served, but occasionally he pulls rank to influence ponies such as Hoity Toity or Sapphire Shores to do him a solid. I also always thought that Moondancer being a competing love interest (unlucky childhood friend type) would be interesting since I saw the first episode. I like the idea that Blueblood is actually generally pleasant, if fussy like Rarity, and is one of Spike’s close friends.

I just realized all these ponies are white. What’s up with that?

So at one of the panels, one of the explanations given regarding Spike is that Twilight, after successfully hatching Spike, focused on her studies. Spike was raised by Celestia, who developed Scrolls that she could teleport with spike’s flame.

Spike remained with Celestia until he was old enough to be working full time and served as a liaison between Celestia and “her most faithful student”. Also keep in mind that Spike DOES have a certain pull around certain political ponies. He SOMEHOW got Hoity Toity TWICE to observe Rarity’s outfits, as well as got Celestia to appear IN PERSON when Twilight went off the deep end in Lesson Zero.

If he has such pull, Celestia probably knew something about his rapid growth potential to greed and thus didn’t make it seem to be a big deal, or something TO desire. Cadance, however, has had no issue overly indulging Spike in basically anything he wants, and we see how THAT goes.

Then there is the fact that Spike doesn’t see Twilight as “Mommy” to further say that they are close, but he doesn’t view her in that light.

Maybe Blueblood and Moondancer are siblings.

I’m just saying that because that means that Spike & Rarity have matching romantic rivals. When Spike returns to Canterlot and his old crush Moondancer starts hitting on him, Rarity will be extra furious that it’s not just this fishy woman who’s got naive lil Spikey Wikey in her claws, but it’s also her rotten brother she’s met before and clearly they are out toruin her.

We’ve seen how they react to strangers. Once familiar with a non-pony, they don’t seem to treat them any different. Given that Spike was apparently far more social than Twilight, enough that he was getting invitations to parties, ponies in Canterlot were apparently familiar with him. I think Twilight probably doesn’t much care whether Spike is nobility or not. She hatched him, after all, and they probably grew up together like siblings. Spike, I suspect from his actions and revealed motivations in various episodes, prefers to be treated as he is because being useful is very important to his self-image.

I figure Spike to be a “child celebrity” in Canterlot, being the only known “domesticated” dragon in existence. As such, he would’ve had a lot of connections through assorted fans/admirers such as Moondancer, Hoity Toity, etc.

I can’t see him as being a prince, though, because we’ve seen how ponies tend to be jerks to non-pony creatures. Spike isn’t even treated as an equal, let alone an aristocrat. Hell, Twilight Sparkle is as close to Spike as any pony, and he STILL sleeps in a cat-basket at the foot of her bed.
