Wouldn’t the last one just be dupe voting?

I wonder what percentage of verbotenvotes could be eliminated by making the downvote button a feature which only appears if a user is logged in? That would make it at least a little easier to keep track of serial shitvoters, like, say, the two or three dozen who regularly go Full Pavlov any time they see a headscarf or anything darker than a paper bag.
 
Users should mos’ def’ not be auto-unsubbed from images they have hidden; anyone who has a main filter and separate filters for work/school/shared computers or NSFW would never see any notifications for those images unless they switched filters.

No, E261 is an entirely different site with a different community. They also restrict how much you can upload and other stuff. We prefer being a generally open and permissive site.

Not being unsubbed from hidden/filtered images, I can understand. But wasn’t there a question about being unsubbed if you downvoted?

The only “downvote abuse” I believe in is using multiple accounts to downvote the same image multiple times and you already punish that. Sometimes people downvote for petty reasons and sometimes they upvote for petty reasons. Neither downvoting nor upvoting is more valid than the other. You take the bad with the good. You don’t take away people’s ability to vote because they don’t vote the way you want them to.
 
I see no harm in making hiding images an option so long as hiding images does not replace downvotes nor affect the score.

On the Hide button: Maybe if we think of it a filter expression and not a general-purpose button. Maybe.  
On the Downvotes: I agree with that pony who refers to e6’s method. Someone said it would not work properly because of public access. I say we have the power of machine/IP-related tools for that

Personally I don’t think down voting does much good. If it’s the content you object to, filter it. If it’s the quality, ignore/hide it. It’s not like its score is going to get it mixed in with anything good. Nevertheless I don’t actually care that much either way.
 
Edit: though I didn’t consider someone may want to hide posts below a certain score threshold which could help hide low quality content if it’s really a bother to someone.

I took the poll, don’t really have much else to say that I already haven’t other than I hope the outcome doesn’t go the way I feel it will.

Like I said, the multiple account abuse problem can easily be curbed by giving new accounts probation periods on voting. Make it just affect downvotes in particular. The downvote function should be available once the probation is over.  
Those who intend on following the rules and stay will likely understand its purpose and wait it out.

Could there then be a notification system that correlates what tags are likely to be the reason for downvote abuse, then sends a message to the user to suggest they hide the tag? Perhaps including an easy button to do that?
 
I suppose that would require setting up an algorithm that tracks the usage data of all derpibooru users, and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with that idea.

Better yet just automatically filter it after so many consecutive downvotes in a certain period of time.

I believe a Hide function should be added into the system as well. Make it like the Faves by giving it a list where the hidden images go to, in case one wishes to unhide something in the future.

We normally just give people a warning first unless it’s obvious they’re acting maliciously.

The only users that should have that much control over another user’s experience is a mod.

it could really work if downvotes didn’t exist since the very beginning. Better pics would get better score, competition, trending etc. Upvotes abuse would be a thing. People would be more responsible in rating images.

That will never happen. Especially since implications can heavily skew results. For example, imagine someone downvotes every instance of the “Sunset holding a sign” meme - such a system would end up blocking them from seeing any picture of Sunset Shimmer.
 
Plus remember that we have “system filters” which thousands of users share, you can’t automatically edit those for obvious reasons.

I find it pretty funny how many times it’s been stated that downvotes won’t be removed, yet the very first option is “should we remove downvoting???????”.

I honestly think that question’s just there so they can get a feel for how vast the majority is for keeping downvotes. The mods I’ve talked to don’t expect the winning answer to be “yes” in the slightest.

Brigading or spamming which of the following, if any, should be punishable behaviour?
 
I’d really like an outline of what is considered “brigading”, and a solid definition of the punishments before I vote on this one.

And what happens if the poll shows a resounding yes, will the be an investigation into why there was a backlash in the first place if ””“The Majority™””” actually wants it? Or will it be an instant removal of downvoting?
