The focus was always on the Mane 6.

Technically… Starlight was the focus of S6, and the Young 6 (albeith in a more balanced way) of S8. After the S5, the Mane 6 got heavy focuses only in the S7, the Movie and Best Gift Ever.
I think as final season, heavy focus on them (without necessarely keeping the other characters out of course) is due IMO. They are the pulsing cores of FiM, and as such in a final season focus on the main characters is pretty much due. I mean I don’t think that in the final season of a Spider Man show writers would put focus on the driver of a random car.

Too bad that with the exception of Hearts Warming Tail, all her stories in S6 went in total sfavor of the Mane 6:
-In The Crystalling all the Mane 6 were completely useless;
-In No Second Prances Twilight was quite regressed in the character, by forgetting TWO lessons from the past;
-In Every Little Things She Does, as much funny I found it, the Mane 6 except Twilight were turned into living version of Siri;
-And lastly…. To Where and Back Again… it treated them like garbage in order to give Starlight the spotlight…. AND DON’T GET ME STARTED AGAIN ON THE CHAOS IT CAUSED ON THE ENTIRE FANDOM ALRIGHT?!
Erm… In any case, even thought there was something similar in S8 with the Young 6, with the exception of the infamous Non-Compete Clause, none of that happened in the episodes focused on the students. But my point is: whatever the story arc of the final season will be, the Mane 6 MUST be the focus of it. If you do a show with its own pulsing cores, you can’t focus the final season and most especially, the series finale, on some other random characters. That would be so idiotic.

Not every episode focuses on the Mane 6.
In No Second Prances all three of them made mistakes.
And To Where and Back Again was not the the first time the Mane 6 were overwhelmed by changelings. That doesn´t mean they were treated like garbage. I really loved Glimmy and her rescue team.

Yeah, even Twilight, and sometimes when a series is ending, it’s best to include all of the known characters, this even includs the ones that were introduce later in the series.

I’m just worried that there won’t be enough time to wrap up every loose end and character arc or give any episodes to characters that desperately need some.

To be fair, there are so many things left up to air: Discord’s origins, Sunburst and Starlight’s relationship being brought to an upper level, Luna and Celestia’s Past, Spike’s REAL parents and Scootaloo’s family, other than the various antagonists stuff which I’ve reason to believe they will be covered in the final season regardless, as part of its story arc. I don’t know how much and if all of this stuff will be covered in the final season, but as much it would suck to see these things not covered before the series ends, I won’t dramatize about that… as long the Mane 6 get the ending they deserve. Again: I’m not saying that the other characters must be just left out of the season, but as final season, I still believe that the main story arc, whatever it will be, must be focused on them, with maybe some “assistance” from other characters. The other characters can find space in not-arc related episodes. I don’t think it will be much of that problem anyway. One episode for each of those things will be more than enough, and there are 26 in the season hey.
