Naming Background Ponies Thread!

I’ll endorse Lovely Letters for orange.

Blue: Stormy Day – I know it’s competing with Rainy Day, but looking at her mane; she looks like a Stormy to me.
 
Purple: Appointed Rounds.
 
Orange: Sunny Delivery
 
Grey: The Muffin Mare

Not sure I like Appointed Rounds  
It feels odd to have the orange and blue ones named after the creed but then have purple go in a different direction

Appointed Rounds is some words in the creed, but what does it have to do with the purple pony? Her special talent seems to have something do with kicking boxes accurately, and it’s represented by a snowflake or flower.
 
Rain has to have something do with the blue one; she has the raincloud. Purple has to have something to do with sleet; she has the snowflake or snow lily or edelweiss. (Plus if you look at a WoW snow “lily,” it’s clearly in the asteracea family not the lily family. In fact it’s pretty clearly an edelweiss.)

If anything the orange one should be Appointed Rounds because her cutie mark is a spiral on a disk, both of which are round, surrounded by ray lines.

This one is painful, but for the purple pony, “Sleetfoot”?

Can I mention I dislike pigeonholing a character’s name based on their job? I know the show does it too sometimes, but the mane 6 aren’t Sweet Party, Orchard Bucker, Rainbowmaker, Tailor Jewels, Starry Scribe, and Tender Care.

I was talking about the lily flower in general I didn’t know there was one in a game. The snow was for her frosty hair.

I get a bit of enjoyment out of it if it makes for a good pun (or fits pretty well otherwise), but I see your point. For what it’s worth, I’d be fine with Snow Lily for the purple one too.

Going by the mailemares’ cutie marks, there definitely seems to be a rain, snow and sun theme going on.
 
I’m going to throw in my hat for Rainy Day, Snow Lily and… eh, Sunny Delivery has the most votes of the sun-related names, but I don’t much care for how it sounds.

I don’t like that either; but the names i like to come up with would diverge completely from the show’s standard. that’s why i don’t ever suggest. who’d go for names like Walagash, Daryavaha, Wardagauna, Azaspara, Mithrafarnah or Angostepatepgar?

Putting my votes in for blue being Rainy Day, purple being Snow Lily (still think it’s a snowflake and the shape in the center of her cutie mark is a hexagon and not a circle, but whatever), and Orange… I’m submitting an alternative for her.
 
Summer Heat. Remember, the creed is “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”, and it’s very clear that they’re referencing that- purple is Snow, blue is Rain, and orange is Heat. Therefore, their names should incorporate those three words- Snow Lily, Rainy Day, and Summer Heat.
 
Now we just need to find a mailpony we can slap the name “Gloomy Night” on and the set is complete.

For purple I’d be happy with Northern Sleet, Sleetfoot (downside terribly punny but not really any worse than Guyra and Flyra; upsides related to sleet, related to her kicking boxes), or reluctantly Edelweiss. Northern Sleet if I have to vote for just one but it’s really a coin toss over Sleetfoot. I agree with Poketrix, I think it’s a snowflake not a flower, so I think something weather-related (and sleet-related specifically for the postal creed) is best. But I’m not entirely convinced I’m right it’s not a flower. I am however certain it’s an aster not a lily if it is a flower. Lilies have a superior ovary surrounded by separate anthers with large pollen strobili, not a central inflorescence disc. So while “Snow Lily” isn’t truly awful (there are a handful of common flowers called lilies that aren’t really lilies; WoW uses the name for an Edelweiss) it’s bothersomely wrong. If it’s a flower, it’s likely an Edelweiss. I’d really like to keep this one open a while to brainstorm on a good consensus name.
 
Blue: Lots of good suggestions. I think out of all of them, Rainy Day is probably best. Fits the cutie mark, fits the creed.
 
Orange: Appointed Rounds. Don’t really like any of them including my own, but I can’t come up with anything better than that, and at least her cutie mark is round and it fits the postal creed.
 
Grey: Derpy Hooves, natch.
 
Little colt: Water Spout seems good.

Over on /mlp/ we had an idea for naming them Frost Post, Rain Mail and Summer/Sunny Stamp. I’ll see if anyone likes those.
