Scootaloo having a disability (or at least a slow flight learner)
100%. This is in line with the original vision for that character and opens new possibilities.
||Superhero ponies
80%. It looks as if they stepped inside a superhero comic book (and maybe that is the premise). Maretropolis looks way too modernized, in my opinion, but I feel there’s actually a good in-universe reason since the camera pan was meant to evoke a feeling of alienness. Also, everytime Spike goes around giving high complements to the Mane6, he gets left behind (as part of BNE’s storyline), which makes me just slightly jaded since in all the episode’s he was in back in S3, he never really got to make a real impact.||
The Apple family and Pinkie Pie singing.
100%. I don’t know what will bring this up, but I like it on its own merits.
||Return of Nightmare Moon
60%. I don’t think this will actually be NMM’s return. I agree with people saying this is probably a flashback because it has been suggested in a recent Hot Topic video that she’ll be visiting the past. I submit that Luna was actually talking to Celestia (the “basking in your precious light” bit one YouTuber pointed out), and Twilight was there as a ghost. The action bit was hard to make out, but it looked to me like Celestia was behind Twi and got attacked.
If this were not the case, several problems would exist. The dialog would be odd, since it would suggest Luna has become abruptly jealous of Twilight’s new fame, which defeats her character development all the way back in the pilot. It may also contradict the recent comic arc, which would personally disappoint me as I consider the comics extended universe canon.
Under the more likely flashback interpretation, I would hope the episode gives us real insight into the princesses’ characters or reveals unexpected facts. I feel it’s hard to make a truly engaging flashback-based story because it’s merely a verbatim review of past events, with mystery and gradual exposition thrown out the window, and in this case, it’s literally everything we already know from the start of the show.|| Of course, the previews are good for warping viewers’ expectations a bit (which was part of the S2 experience for me), so I’m still a bit optimistic.
I may sound cynical or unimpressed here, but actually, I’m quite excited.
I’m thinking at this point that they all magically end up inside a comic book somehow.
Did anyone catch the names with all of the yelling? I caught RD’s, (Zap) Rarity’s, (Radiance) AJ’s (Mistress Marevolence) and Fluttershy (Saddle Ranger)
@K_A Not a shock, getting sucked into a world of superheroes always requires one comic book nerd who knows who his friends become even though they don’t. Bonus points if they screw it up and the real heroes have to come along and save them.
@Whatevs
Although I should qualify that by saying I dont expect the season to be bad or anything. Merely that the teaser didnt tickle my g-spot if you catch my meaning.
It seems that Nightmare Moon is appearing as well. I’m actually kind of worried about that, because I fear that Celestia will punish Luna by sending her to the Moon again, this time forever. I like Luna, so that would be really depressing for me.
It’s gotta be a flashback. She says “There can be only one princess in Equestria,” so unless she’s got some kind of Order 66 up her sleeve she’s most likely in a time when there was only one other princess for her to deal with.
Also, Sedusa confirmed for S4 villain; Double Rainboom confirmed for prophetic. I kid, of course.
Unrelated to the animatic, but kind of sad that people are still going to make “those” memes about McCarthy even though she said she was sorry and doesn’t like seeing them.
@Itsthinking
That’s because people are assholes or can never let shit go. Also it’s a bloody animated television program, get your priorities in order.
OH GOD YES. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. This is one thing that I don’t want to stray from Lauren Faust’s vision: an episode that deal with realistic issues.
@Itsthinking
If she was really as terrible as the fandom perceives her as, you’d think she would be out of her job and fandom would just completely collapse right? None of those happened………..At least not yet.
I honestly don’t even care any more. I expect people to act a certain way whenever something happens with the show now, my feelings are more “wow they did it in the way I thought they would” instead of “why are they doing this” now.
I don’t expect much from an Internet fandom based around a TV show designed to sell toys to little girls, at least any more.
What if the Nightmare Moon scene is not a flashback, but a simulation? Luna and Celestia are testing Twilight to see how she would react and handle the situation? Or it could be just a dream.
