I can say not many people were looking forward to this episode. The stream I was in was almost empty. Last week with the Starburst episode, I could barely type anything in the chat window because of the spam and lag.
 
Well, that’s unfortunate because they missed out on a good episode.

I beat LoZ:BotW!!!
Okay if I had to rank this episode, I’d go with around average. The humor and pace are on par with the show, the issue is the character work. Act 1 works for the characters since the stakes are still low, but then you have a drowning scene, you know actual death potential, and Mane characters don’t react to this at all and then double down on their competitiveness. Really this suffers the same problem Honest Apple did, making the characters look bad in the second act just to set up the rest of the plot for the remaining act.

My biggest question is: Why would Twilight even implement the “employee of the month” award in the first place? It’s not only pointless, but she didn’t take into account Rainbow Dash and Applejack, the two most competitive ponies she knows. It’s in their DNA to compete against each other, how could you not know it?
 
Because honestly, do you know how hard it is to think of a new conflict instead of just re-hashing the same stuff from Season 1-2?

I didn’t mind that AJ and RD were fighting with each other, because I’ve always had a soft spot for character rivalries, and this was no exception. I feel like it would’ve worked if it didn’t have the field trip plot.

Its not a bad episode. Its what you’d expect from cartoon characters like AJ and RD. I couldn’t relate to either of them but I could certainly relate to the students. When they got trapped in the vines, I was saying leave them behind. Guess what Gallus says? Leave them behind. The students were the audience emphasizing how the idea was dumb. If anything, this episode gets merit for that.
