Yeah, except for the part where that has always been 100% self-congratulatory bullshit. Being there when a thing starts is not the same thing as starting it yourself; 4chan played a significant early role in spreading the FIM fandom among the college-age male demographic, but it in no way whatsoever was solely responsible for the creation of the larger fandom, and it’s an insult to the inherent quality of the show itself to pretend like FIM would have just languished in obscurity if not for the heroic efforts of anonymous dudebros on 4chan. My own entry into the fandom owes exactly nothing to 4chan, and there are a lot more carrying-on Previous Gen fans around than channers like to admit.

How so? It doesn’t look like the show is ever going to actually address it directly, but given that Twilight had never taken her friend/brother/son/pet/assistant to the doctor before their second year in Ponyville, it seems unlikely that she would have been the one in charge of him as an infant.

If we’re still using Word Of Faust to fill in gaps the show hasn’t covered, he’s so distant a relative that she wouldn’t have been the one raising him; you’re right, though, that she probably should had taken him aside and given him a few hard looks by now. My guess is that she keeps the Court dumb and snooty and easily led on purpose just to stop them being trouble outside of Canterlot.

Even the writers seem disappointed in how they handled Sombra; I got the definite impression from convention panels that they wish they’d made him a little more of a direct threat, and would have brought him back later if they’d had 26 episodes to fill.

Oh, so you mean like Chrysalis. She is twice as overrated as Sombra while having little to no more character depth that he has. Evil King vs. Evil Queen. Pick your poison. Difference is, every time the discussion turns to Chrysalis, there aren’t fans who feel the need to bring up how “horrible” of a character she was.

I actually liked the idea that Celestia was always the one to be Spike’s motherly figure, because for one thing, Celestia initiated practically everything, she obviously had some sort of plan and it also ties in with the actual motive behind acquiring a dragon egg in the first place.  
As for the nobles, there is a very simple solution to that, Spike is under protection of Celestia herself, simple. Would anyone object the ruler that has kept a kingdom safe for thousands of years? it’s also not really that much outraging she would protect a small baby dragon from being burned at the stake by society, for one thing, that would imply not allowing her own followers to act like barbarians.
 
 
as for Sombra, I honestly hope they don’t bring him back. I know things can be done, but trying to salvage him seems like a waste of time right now for both him and the show as a whole.  
I think they’d have better chances at just writing a new villain all together, instead of digging up the remains of Sombra, bringing him back, complicating the story more in order to either keep him from coming back, or having him come back again for some ridiculous reason..
 
For one thing, the story of Crystal Empire is so god damn precise it’s almost laughable in how ridiculous it all is.. The magic artifact has only ONE property and purpose of existence, to destroy Sombra Specifically.  
Second, much like season 2’s premier was Discord’s one and only moment to either make it big, or just fall into obscurity slowly, so was season 3’s premier the one moment for Sombra’s character to be fully established. They failed, it sucks, they should accept that Sombra didn’t work and not convolute the story anymore than they have.
 
If they decide to bring back Sombra, for their own sakes, I only hope they have something else for him to do than what he should have been doing in season 3, only to be defeated yet again.

and yet, a few lines of dialogue from a certain queen makes for a world of difference in terms of motivation.
 
I call that motivation by the name of changelings, because that’s the general idea behind them not as characters, but as a species, evidenced a lot in the episode through their properties and power, capturing ponies in cocoons and draining love. It seems to be more of a parasitic relation to me than anything and that’s really all that anyone needs to know about them, they don’t need a world shattering motivation other than to feed themselves and see ponies as nothing more than sustenance for their own species.
 
and no, this isn’t headcanon in case you were wondering, the whole narrative in ACW used words such as “feed” in the middle of most sentences whenever a sentence was describing changelings. This is basically their biology, according to that information.

again, all that’s going to happen is he is going to be destroyed / stopped, yet again, nothing that we haven’t seen before.
 
For similar reasons, it would have been redundant to get Discord, NMM or even Queen Chrysalis back just for another shot at being villains and to be defeated, again.  
Discord had a different role to serve for instance, he was reformed and became a main character. That’s different enough to warrant a return.

I don’t like the idea of people keep making documentaries about this fandom. One is enough. If people don’t like us, showing them more documentaries won’t change a thing. In fact, it will just give some the excuse that we are “trying too hard to make ourselves look good”. And we are, with those documentaries.
 
Why not instead make a documentary about FiM, about how great it is, being the best cartoon aimed for girls since forever, with some mention of bronies as an example of quality?

people can do what they want obviously, but sometimes it’s not whether or not you can, but whether you should. In this case, Grieffon has a point in saying that what they’re doing is the exact opposite of their intended result.

hard to believe that someone here who likes Sombra agrees with what I said. that is, if I’m not mistaking that you are a fan of Sombra.
 
 
maybe they could make his return, who knows… I would prefer not to personally, but what I said earlier is that I hope for their sakes it’s not just another scenario in which he needs to be stopped.  
one example that I can think for him returning, is tapping into magic that attempts to restore his sanity back, having it either fail or succeed, maybe having a bit of a surprise in store for us regarding the final outcome of that experiment.  
Admittedly, the chances of that scenario happening would be 0 to none.. it’s more fitting of a story for something like a Batman episode, than an MLP:FIM one.

you know, I have a similarly hard time on Nightmare Moon.. I usually only get that she’s the worst villain, but for one thing, her motives followed with her actions.
 
She’s not the best villain obviously, but she wasn’t as bad as people make her out to be. The way I usually explain her non-lethal ways of stopping the mane 6? To her and everyone watching the episode at the time, as well as paying attention, those aren’t the Elements of Harmony yet, they’re some citizens / villagers.. To better explain, her motivation was jealousy for not getting adoration, right? so, why spill the blood of her to-be subjects?  
It makes sense to me anyway.. she’s obviously more about becoming not ruler of the world, but replacing Celestia all together.
 
I would say even that for me, NMM will forever be infinitely better than Sunset Shimmer in the role of a show villain. I’m not saying that she’s the best, I accept the reality of her too, but even with that, I think she was a fairly decent villain, not outstanding, just good enough.

I still don’t see how “Power” Isn’t a good enough motive for Sombra. A lot of real life events happened because of simple reasons.
 
Jews were enslaved just because the egyphtians wanted cool buildings  
The whole Nazi Thing happened because “My race is better than yours”  
Heck some wars happened because one person insulted another one.
 
Evil isn’t always gonna have a big long childhood related reason behind it
