NB: This feature will never override tags that you have hidden.  
TL;DR: is there anyone specifically against having taginfo also visible in simple searches?
 
So, we all know that (assuming the default filter) if search for questionable you get a wall of spoilered thumbs, but when you go to its tag page it will not show spoilers for the tag in question, as well as some info about the tag.
 
This inconsistency, as well as the inability to get tag info on searches, as well as the wall of spoilers being absolutely useless, has annoyed me for ages.
 
So I made something (that isn’t live yet) that solves this, and need opinions on whether it becomes a thing or not.
 
Let’s see what we got when I go to my devbox’s* frontpage, in this example I’m spoilering the rainbow dash and flash sentry tags  
 
We didn’t search for anything specifically, so it will spoiler the pic.
 
Now, let’s search for rd, which is aliased to rainbow dash:  
 
Notice that we are NOT on a /tags/ page; this is the actual searchpage. Like /tags/ pages, the taginfo will be hidden on subsequent pages. We searched for rd, so given that we want to see rd pics, we don’t spoiler on that tag anymore. Notice that it’s still spoilered in your filter (as denoted by the +S in the taginfo) and if you go to an image page, it will also be spoilered still.
 
Now let’s extend the search, because I want to see pictures that have both rd and flash sentry:  
 
This doesn’t show a taginfo, because we are explicitly searching for multiple tags**. And yes on my devbox that picture is actually tagged with both rd and flash sentry. Again, if you open the image page for that pic, it will be spoilered as usual.
 
It also works if you’re searching for one tag and excluding others. Complex things are just ignored, so something like (rd AND *lash sentry) will still spoiler on rd.

  ** = this could potentially add a (collapsed by default) taglist, with clickable links to the individual tags you explicitly searched for.

IE sucks for extensions.

1. There are no/very few comments yet.  
2. There are comments that are actually relevant to the image. At the very least, there is some sort of meaningful conversation going on.
    
   I don’t really care much if:  

• the thread has already gone to hell, or in your example  
• an already running thread.  
  But if someone posts an article about “All bronies are losers” or something like that, with meaningful conversation going on about similarities to other phenomena, people, whatever etc, then I absolutely hate the people that come in and post “<jontron-stop.gif> lol, didn’t read it. this is now a jontron thread”
   
  The same holds for if there are no/few comments yet, because those damned gif parties make any normal discussion completely impossible.
   
  If you want to jontron thread on a picture that is for once actually relevant to whoever jahntran is be my guest and go ahead. Technically I should also be against those because people might like to discuss something about jon, but if you want to discuss janthran maybe you shouldn’t be on derpi to begin with. But topics like “All bronies are losers”, drama-inviting as they may be, are still relevant to MLP:FiM, and I/the mods are fed up with the people taking away the possibility to discuss it from the users that actually want to and can do so in a civil manner.
   
  Incidentally, it’s usually not the discussion or subject itself that is causing drama, it’s those damned people that derail the threads that do. You and I and five other people can have a perfectly normal (although perhaps slightly offtopic) conversation about shipping. Even if that spawns from a picture that has nothing to do with shipping, I don’t mind. I start minding if someone comes in and goes “hm, this looks like a good place to post doctor-who.gif” which has literally nothing to do with either the pic nor the way the topic went from one thing from another.

  EDIT: to summarize, I’ve seen enough cases where someone actually asked for “no gif thread on this one please; we’re trying to discuss things” and GUESS WHAT HAPPENED? Do you think the gif posters really stopped and mvoed to somewhere else? Or did they suddenly flood it with even more gifs?
