Ah yes, I didn’t mention which year it is. It’s a 1999 Chevy K2500 LS in Silver and I bought it used on Craigslist. I feel like part of it was the past owner passing off a poorly maintained vehicle on me in some ways (the transmission being the worst of it) and many of those problems have been remedied. Some remain, however:
1: Rusted Quarter Panel above Tailpipe (I have the part to replace it with.)
2: Rusted Rear Wheel Arches (Weren’t seen at first, they’re underneath plastic arch extensions.)
3: Fuel and Oil Pressure Gauges don’t work right (they move, they’re just far off.)
4: A/C Hasn’t ever been charged since I owned it, no idea if it’ll even work.
5: Rear Passenger Side Power Window doesn’t work whatsoever.
All in all this has been the most vastly problematic automobile I’ve ever owned, then again I liked to repair nearly everything at the same time
and most problems were from lack of maintenance or neglect such as the windshield fluid reservoir being cracked. Nobody cracks that unless they put or leave water in it in winter. The frame is in wonderful shape, there’s no large rust that can’t be handled on the body and I sprayed most of the vehicle with Fluid Film before winter including in all of the doors and in all the rocker panels where there are plugs that come out, I’m guessing for cleaning?
I do suppose using quality oil
and filters would help immensely with a cylinder shutoff feature, it’s what I’m planning to use on this Suburban. Have you ever looked into a Bypass Filter System? They’re amazing, most filters let a lot of contaminants go by and flow in the engine. That’s partially because engines would otherwise starve of oil with a traditional “Full Flow” filter. A “Bypass Filtration” System filters some of the oil on a partial-flow basis but leaves most oil flow through the rest of the engine unimpeded thus you get much cleaner oil and longer drain intervals and significantly less wear. I own a bypass filtration system by Amsoil, I’ve only never installed it due to lack of a bracket to get the filter placement past the torsion bar. This may have turned out to be a blessing in disguise though because the stock Oil Cooler Lines are quite possibly leaking. I simply must replace them either way, it would be good to repair the gauges too; then should a line on this Bypass Filter System burst I’ll quickly see I have no oil pressure and turn off the engine. My parents may have lost an F150 due to the same problem, I was riding along and then suddenly we had no oil so that may have been the culprit.
Come to think of it yeah, I’m not tired of the sound of this engine. It does however get a little quieter (gently so) if I’m running some Diesel Kleen in the fuel tank which I’ve been doing probably over 3,000 miles now. (I was getting codes on the dash, maybe due to poor quality fuel at the time.)

I see what you’re talking about, they all have that kind of look.
