You see a lot more in this setting than I do then. Honestly I don’t think its put together very well. Like, at all. I look at it and see generic fantasy realm #86 but they’re ponies. Pretty much the only thing that is really unique is the fact they have to manually manipulate the day/night cycle.
 
Characters fascinate me first and after that the unique rules and setting and frankly FiM is terrible at both.

The Jester Hat building seems to move around a lot but it’s the thing over on the right, notice the bells:  

 
There’s a lot to see and do in Ponyville but we seem to spend most of our time in Twilight’s Library UNTIL THEY BLOW IT UP.
 

 
..and Bats! could have been a simple, 2-pony debate with a compromise at the end. Sigh

Well, it seems like the world is already in danger every single day. Applejack would honestly be a lot better off without her family, seeing as they’re all one note gag characters that the show has no interest in developing, and we could introduce new supporting cast in the adventures.
 
I can see we each have an idea of what would make this show good, and our views are probably irreconcilable, so I don’t want this to turn into a shouting match, but I really do think the show dropped a lot of its potential when it decided to be almost entirely slice of life.

And yeah, life in Ponyville can use more exploration, but it may not make an exciting story. There always has to be a crisis going on, doesn’t it? Why can’t we just have more common problems? Like 3AC, it could have just been a normal bonding adventure without a chaos god involved.
 
We can win. Just continue slice-of-life without placing the moral on top.

My problem is that it would just be the seven of them together, everywhere, all the time and the world would be in danger every freaking day. No family (What would Applejack do?), no jobs (Seriously, what would Applejack do?), no familiar support cast.
 
To me, Ponyville is it’s own little world that needs to be explored. We still don’t even know what that Jester Hat-shaped building is supposed to be. All those characters who were just starting to develop, left behind in the hero’s wake?
 
I need that setting, man, It’s like home. It’s waht are heroes are really fighting for. Save the kickassery for spin-offs and finales and let me wallow in the mundane pleasures of Ponyville for as long as I can.

The forced morals are to slice of life episodes what deus ex machinas are to the action episodes. We just can’t win.

Just forget the morals and write stories driven by something that’s not moral…

While I definitely think the show is best when it manages to balance the slice of life and magical girl aspects, I’d be overjoyed to see the show take a more adventure-oriented lesson. I mean, they’ve got this gigantic, amazing world set up here, and I don’t want to see them waste it by having the characters stay in their Podunk town and learn the same three lessons over and over.

So we would either have one or the other and I’m happy with the one we got. If this show was anything but what it is now, I probably wouldn’t even be here right now.

This would give me some kind of mood whiplash. Reserve the darkness for premieres and finales. Our ponies still have a lot of living left to do in Ponyville.

Slice of Life was not was originally planned, like I said. For as much as people complain about a lack of continuity, a series heavily reliant on arcs would probably be worse for it.

I think it’s good that they avoided it as long as they could. It made the characters more relatable than they would have been by focusing so much on their mortal pursuits instead of flashy battles and transforming sequences. Slice of Life made this show what it is and I don’t want to see it go. There are still so many stories to tell that don’t require shit blowing up and destinies being met.

I’m all for shaking up the status quo, but I was thinking of relatable changes, BABY STEPS. I get this horrible magic girl Power Rangers vibe and I just want to curl up and die. Like being a superhero is completely counterproductive to their lives.

But maybe “a little worried” is just my default setting.

I actually don’t care about the S4 finale that much. As long as the tone of the show doesn’t completely shift in season 5, I’ll be okay with it.

Too many Applemac fics are exactly that. “Ohmahgerd muh true luv is muh brotha?” an junk.  
Hate Applemac with a passion just cuz so much treat it similarly to Sparity.  
Waddafuq is up with that shit yo. At least Twilight has some really questionable out-of-context moments in ACW that can be interpreted by first-timers the wrong way. BUT WHEN THE HELL DID AJ EVER DO THAT KINDA STUFF TOWARDS MAC?!?

well if that is the case, that’s a whole different situation then.  
in similar regards, I find it just as distasteful for people telling me I’m wrong for not feeling the same way they do about something.
