Making people pick a single entry forces them to vote strategically, taking what they see as the “safe vote” that has a higher chance of winning rather than what they would actually like.
 
A lot of people are voting for 3, 4, even 5 or more entries. That’s why the numbers are close.

Priorities can change so quickly, apparently. Now that I’ve realized why just calling her “Sphinx” and letting her actual name be a nebulous myth is better, I don’t even want a Round 3 for her anymore. The minority is up to something here.  
But it would still be good to have a third round for Trixie’s mom and for Fluttershy’s mom. The results are really split there.

Can we just keep having polls until one name gets a majority? Like, the next poll is five names + no change, then three, and then one, with the process stopping as soon as a majority is found. Pluralities will just create confusion and quite possible anger.

That’s another problem. If we’d Narrowed it down to five unique names and then pitted those names up against ‘Sphinx (character)’ We’d stand a fighting chance. But as it is there’s too much division with 15 names for us to stand a chance against the original.

the problem with this many options is one may get the most votes, but that’s like less than 1/10th of everyone who voted that likes the highest scoring name, therefore it’s still a minority.. basically, there are no winners in this war.

Plus, the better names in those polls just got flat out ignored, which doesn’t help things either.

It's bad. In a good way!
This time around I voted for so few. Most of the good names have gone. It’s sad that after all this effort with so many good names, we’re certain to end up back where we started. People have chosen the familiar over the clever.
 
And no I’m not saying that because all of my suggestions were voted out. But it might be partly that I brought up the Lulamoon name and then people started tacking that onto suggestions, despite her being the least moony pony. It leaves me actually feeling responsible for some of these duds. Sunny Lulamoon like come on, no. There was a chance to be creative!

I was about to object to that being the final round for all votes but then I remembered that you can vote for as many options as you like.
 
Still, with each option giving like 16 choices I think the top 5 chosen should go to a final final round where you can only vote on one.

When the polls were first set up, we didn’t have a clear idea on how many submissions would be made and (at the time) the site limited polls to 10 entries. With the number of entries upped to 20 per poll, multiple rounds are no longer necessary, so a few changes are going to be made from what was announced in the initial post.
 
  1. This is the final poll for all 4 characters. The polls are still multiple choice, so you can and should vote for all the entries you like.  
  2. The #1 vote-earner will become the primary tag for the character.  
  3. The #2 vote-earner will become an alias of the primary tag.  
  4. All existing tags will become aliases of the new primary tag. This means that (for example) even if two brand-new names win for Trixie’s Mom, the Dandy Lion and Trixie’s Mom tags will still remain aliases.  
  5. For the Shy parents, in the interest of keeping parity between the name tags, Mr. Shy and Mrs. Shy will only remain the primary tags if both those options win their respective polls. It would be odd for one parent to have a fan name as their primary tag and the other to go without one.
     
    All four polls will run for 7 days. Ballot order is randomized. Once again, votes will be monitored for sockpuppet voting and moderation will be applied as needed.
