You get what I’m saying, though, right? Accuracy to the source material does not alone make or break a movie.

Consider the example I gave earlier: We do get the Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy movie, the first DC movie to feature a lesbian couple among the main characters, and it sucks, but it at least portrays their relationship accurately to the comics. So afterwards, no movie company wants to do any LGBT-related stuff for their characters again based on the fact that the HQ/PI movie sucked. You see what I mean?

And yes, it could happen. When a bad movie with a certain element comes out, later filmmakers will be more hesitant to use that element; for example, after Batman and Robin, nobody wanted to make lighthearted and goofy superhero movies for a long time.

(And no, Batman and Robin wasn’t based on any particular arc in the DC Universe, but it did suck.)

In my opinion, a movie can be good without being accurate to its source material, such as The Shining; it can be bad while being accurate to the source material, like most of the recent DC films; and it can be both. But the moment you put accuracy to the source material ahead of overall quality, that’s when you fail as a filmmaker.

The thing that sparked this was a Facebook post I saw that was something like “I don’t care if the upcoming DC movie with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy sucks, as long as it portrays their relationship accurately to the comics.” Look, I get that accuracy to the comics is important, especially considering that this might be one of the few same-sex relationships in the DC Universe (as far as I’m aware; I’m not a comic fan by any means though I know that it was strongly hinted in the animated series), but shouldn’t the movie also not be unbearable to sit through? Shouldn’t that be the more important factor?

The idea that the quality of a movie that’s an adaptation of a previously existing source material doesn’t matter as long as it is accurate to the source material it’s based on is a stupid excuse for bad filmmaking.

He went fully reclusive. He told me that I shouldn’t expect any response if I emailed him and that he wouldn’t be checking his deviantART/Derpibooru/whatever social media platforms. I keep fearing something has happened.

@Jarkes
It’s especially rough for me, being his best friend, because I feel like I might have been able to stop this.

Yeah, I doubt that an animated movie with as many stars as Sing has and as much promotion as it has would take only a few months to make. According to Wikipedia, it has been in production since January 2014, which only further proves my thoughts.

@HJSDGCE
For this comparison to work, I assume that Sing is High School Musical and Zootopia is Rush Hour, and not the other way around?

To be fair, both star a female protagonist with a dream job nobody believes she can pursue and a male protagonist who wants to be more than the bad guy everyone expects him to be, so I guess that’s a little more than just “Both are furry movies, so one is a ripoff of the other.” Regardless, people will get into fan wars over nearly anything; just look at the Star Trek and Star Wars fanbases hating each other because both dared to be popular sci-fi series.

If you do not specify a field to search over, the search engine will search for posts with a body that is similar to the query's word stems. For example, posts containing the words winged humanization, wings, and spread wings would all be found by a search for wing, but sewing would not be.
