To me, I would believe that both shows share a connection, I actually like to think that some of the “new” characters are canon to Friendship is Magic.

For now I choose to interpret it as a show the girls themselves put together about themselves, which they hope will turn out better than publishing the Friendship Journal.

Seems quite unlikely - have you seen the art of the new Sugarcube Corner?

I think this is going to be its own thing. I also feel like it’s a partial reboot.
 
I am expecting this to be fluff; I’ll be genuinely (and pleasantly) surprised if the writing is good. Until then, I am skeptical.

There are some details there that are completely misaligned with Friendship Is Magic.

I doubt we’ll be seeing most characters post Season 2 except Starlight Glimmer and Cozy Glow, maybe some other villains too. I could also see maybe Flurry Heart. Spur has a 1 in Graham’s Number chance of being a background cameo, and she’s probably the most likely Season 9 character after Grogar and Luster Dawn; and forget about unnamed background ponies (and I’m pretty sure Hasbro technically doesn’t even own Spur anyway)

It will be its own thing that likely pulls on FIM for flavor and lore. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a lot of background and secondary characters show up as well.

It’d better be. Because then that opens up the door to new shipping. And I don’t want to see my Rarity with another mare.

Most of FIM’s writers stopped being consistent after like Season 4, and both Keating Rogers, and M.A. Larson (two of the more notable writers for FIM) quit after Season 5, with excerpts of a script from Larson being used in Season 7.
 
It could go for a while, but it’d be just like FIM where writers stopped being consistent after a while.

Who is going to want to make the new writers actually go through 9 years of cartoons? Time is money baby

Nope. This is a completely different universe. It only retains the main characters for it.

They ended the main show so they could gear up for G5. This is most likely filler to keep the franchise in view until then. It’s also likely less expensive.

I heard they wanted to distance themselves from DHX for whatever reason.

It sounds like a spinoff of somekind so they can milk it more. But why they ended the main show over this I have no idea…

I think it furthers my guess that this was designed to cash in on TTG as it’s movie was better than MLP’s, but then again, you need to read my custom title.

Maybe the smooze came back, flooded the world, and now they’re holed up in sugarcube corner, waiting for rescue and getting high on the “potions” pinkie has stashed in the basement.

I don’t know, it sounds like more of a kind of reboot than a continuation of FiM to me
