This right here is the reason I stopped watching MLP at episode 100. This here is just downright trolling with no regard to show universe or anything else. I dread the moment I INEVITABLY stumble on porn with this “character” or hear people use it as justification for their own crappy OCs or even worse - weight gain pics and fanfics. Did we REALLY need this?

Just as bad, I say. MLP OCs in general can be just as stupid and try-hard as Sonic OCs, if not moreso .-.
 
That’s bad, because I used to have my own stupid OC a few years back and I know just how incredibly asanine and laughably bad Sonic OCs can be :S

@Beau Skunky Because of his suit against SeGA. It’s partly the other reason why that Ted Anderson thing blew up so big. /co/ came in because you’re legally not allowed to put OCs in. Hasbro is enormously lenient in allowing the show&comic staff to have their own personalised OCs. I imagine they only get a pass cuz they could point at themselves and go “Yea, that’s me!” But if they were wholly original OCs that they used prior or based on RL friends, there’d be some murky trouble there.
 
To put it in perspective a large majority of characters in Malibu comics were actually friends and family of the artists, some even shared the same names as their RL counterparts! But they were not people that were a part of the company nor working on their comicsverse. Malibu would have never been able to launch had they come about after the Penders suit. The only loophole that exists is for “public personas” like politicians, celebrities, musicians, and so forth. He essentially ruined fun non-serious 4th wall comics for everyone, due to the minute possibility of a similar suit.  
(When Marvel bought them they likely retired most of the characters in that universe for that reason, even though it predates Penders there was a case against Anne Rice for a similar reason at the time.)
 
From what I understood from the last Penders thread I read, only way around it is to have people physically come in (every single one you draw from) and sign a release of some sort with witnesses  
Comics is simply not profitable enough an industry anymore to put up with treating every background character like they were shooting a live documentary. Their info source was a book called the “Self-Publisher’s Legal Handbook” that mentioned legal crackdowns due to that and a few literary “defamation” cases of people claiming characters with similar names to theirs was libelous.

Worst of all, Ken even tried to get Ben Hurst (a writer/editor for the cult-classic Sonic SatA.M. show, who kept in touch with fans, and wanted to get a third season going) involved in the project, but according to Hurst, Ken basically backstabbed him… (As I explained here. Look for the huge boxed-in quote in the comments, I made.) >>719017  
So technically, Ken also killed any chance at SatA.M. Sonic getting a revival/movie, or third-season.  
(Makes it ironic, an Ian Flynn-hater told me they feel “Ken Penders had more respect for SatA.M. then Ian did.” Ironically, Ian actually likes that show, while I believe Ken barely even watched it. Ian’s writing even had a few in-jokes for fans, like the obscure “margerine” joke, something only SatA.M. fans would be aware of.)
 
There’s a rumor (not sure if this is true, but knowing Ken, it wouldn’t surprise me…) that Ken wanted to replace Robotnik with his own villain OC Dr. Ian Droid from the “Image” crossover. Ken actually said on his site, if he had his way, both Sally & Robotnik would’ve been permanently killed-off sense the “Endgame” story arc… Luckily, Sega wouldn’t let him do that. (For once, I’m thankful for “executive meddling.”)  
Yeah, I’m sure young Sonic fans would’ve “loved” that… Sega insisted the “death” of Robotnik (and Sally) be only temporary, and the only reason Ken agreed to it, was because he didn’t think the comic would last another 25 issues. (Shows how “passionate” he is about the series. Granted, licensed comics usually don’t last long. It’s amazing the Sonic comic has lasted over 20 years now, and it’s closing in on the record of “longest lasting licensed-comic series.”)
 
Ken had some good ideas/directions for the Sonic comic, and has made good stories. (I won’t deny that.) The problem was, he didn’t want to make a comic loosely-based on a video game/cartoon series. He wanted to turn it into his own comic, as you said.  
He didn’t seem passionate about any source material, or things he didn’t introduce to the series. (Ken said he refused to use Mina Mongoose, because a different writer Karl Bollers created her, and he only used her, because the editor forced him to.)  
I watched an interview with Ken on Youtube where he was asked who his favorite Sonic characters were. After making the usual remark of, “that’d be like asking me who my favorite child is,” he mentioned a few characters he loved… All of which were HIS characters. He didn’t mention any Sonic Sega game characters, (not even Knuckles) nor any of the SatA.M.-Sonic cartoon ones.  
Imagine the flack a fanfic-writer would get if he said something like that his favorite Sonic character/s was his OC.
 
I see some Sonic fans get on Ian’s case for his OCs, (even though Ian hasn’t made nearly as many as Ken…) but unlike Ken’s, Ian’s are just made to drive the plot, or serve a purpose, and they don’t outshine Sonic, and the Freedom Fighters.
 
I hate to sound biased, but I honestly prefer newer writer Ian Flynn, (main writer sence 2006) as he respects the source material (like the games, and SatA.M. series) more then Ken did, and judging by the things Ian has said on the Bumbleking forums, knows more about the Sonic franchise/fanbase, isn’t biased like Ken is.

Woah, that’s one hell of a steal! If I ever get accross such a deal, I’d buy two! So that me, my sis, and my neice would go crazy with our own ugly OCs.

Spike and Rarity is fine. If not, Thunderlane.  
A pony Applejack may have met more than once, so either Flim or Flam.  
If Kilala had recently started, I would’ve recommended Cheesepie, but she began her next gen around season three. So I’d say Discord or Braeburn. Maybe Donut Joe.  
For RD, I’d say Hoops, Dumbell, or ANYONE other than Soarin’.  
Fluttershy, either Discord, Soarin, or Bulk Biceps.  
For Twilight, I wouldn’t see her getting married or having children so early into her princesshood. If any pony other than Flash (because, GOD WHY would an intelligent person ship it) I’d have to go background pony territory with Comet or Time Turner, or one of the royal guards.  
For Luna, not an OC. Since the comics, I’d say Big Mac.  
For Celestia, I’d say no pony because she’s gone celibate for this long, right? Kidding, probably mirror-verse Sombra, or their own universe Sombra if Kilala brought him back.
 
As for CMC:  
Sweetie Belle shouldn’t go with Button Mash, because Janimations made him into their own personalized OC by taking a background pony’s design and made a bratty, whiny OC. Spike, If anyone.  
As for Apple Bloom, how about a pony she’s met? I have a soft spot for Snips and Apple Bloom, by the force of a sweet comic strip. Snails for all I care can get sterilized, because no pony would want those genes.  
Scootaloo? Maybe Featherweight?
 
Disclaimer: Most of these ships I chose were not which I was fond of. Either the characters in the show have had some sort of contact (unless you count Twilight, then ship her with her books. Hey, Rainbow got her sink, didn’t she?) And have spoke at least once or more. I count miror-verse and the comics. (At least, the ones I have heard of)

Probably, especially sense Chris Chan supposedly tried to copyright that Sonichu OC/thing of his, and even called some guy up, and threatened legal matters, because he did a parody of his Sonichu character…
 
Worst part is I see some people trying to even justify/praise Ken for screwing up the Sonic comic, or think he has a right to own his OC characters… If Ken can freely own his Sonic fan-characters, and make his own rip-off comic, then we all owe Chris Chan an apology.
 
Some crazy guy on Youtube called SkullyX99, or something even tried to blame the removal of the Penders characters NOT on Ken, but on current writer Ian Flynn, (who was not involved in the Penders’ legal case, at all, as far as I know) and he claimed Ian only made the “Sonic & Megaman” crossover story arc to get rid of Penders’ characters… (Don’t try to make sense out of that.)  
When I corrected him on that, (even pointing out the crossover was mandated by Sega & Capcom) the guy just insulted me…  
If that were true, Ian could’ve easily gotten rid of them back in #175 when Knothole was destroyed, or back in #230 when the first time-rift happened, if Ian wanted to get rid of them that badly. (Also ironically, Ian’s a fan of Penders’ work, and used his characters quite frequently in the comic to in the past 8 years.)
 
Sorry if I’m going off on a tangent, but as a fan of the Sonic comics, I’m pretty sour with Ken. (Which I’m sorry to say, ‘cause I like his stories/characters to.)  
At least, he can’t claim ownership over the SatA.M. characters.
