In other news, DeathSentence might have just cost Florida a cool 1 billion dollars.
Tucked away in the law that first created the Reedy Creek Improvment is this little clause.
“(Florida) will not in any way impair the rights or remedies of the holders … until all such bonds together with interest thereon, and all costs and expenses in connection with any act or proceeding by or on behalf of such holders, are fully met and discharged”
Those bonds and holdings come to about 1 billion. This is added onto the expected several hundred million in fees that Florida would incur for breaking the nearly half century worth of contracts the state and federal governments have made with/in Reedy Creek.
Then of course there is the huge tax burden that the county and state at large will have to shoulder, and the maintenance costs, replacing of employees, etc.
All in all, Florida would have to eat a couple billion to make this happen.
