Among many other things, Netanyahu has referred to Palestinians as “Amalek”, the biblical enemy of Israel.

For a quick reference:

Netanyahu himself is responsible for Hamas’ rise, and his spokesperson even called them an “asset” a few years back.

Make no mistake. The Israeli government was doing backflips in joy after the Oct 7 massacre committed by Hamas. Because now they had something to point to in order to justify escalating their persecution of Palestinians into a pogrom.

In related news, John Oliver did a segment on the this very topic. Particularly relevant is how he points out that both the citizenry of both Palestine and Israel both overwhelmingly do want peace between each other, but it’s of fucking course the people in their respective governments that’s keeping the murder and hostilities going.

Not necessarily. I can’t speak for the Tanakh as a whole. But for the composition of the Christian Bible it was not written or composed by desert warlords but fairly middle class Latinized Greeks or lower rank Roman nobility, and the New Testament written by Romanized or Hellenized (at “worst”) Levantine/Jews. Not Middle Eastern warlords.

But even the most “Middle Eastern Tribal Warlord” part of the Bible/The Tanakh contains a story all the same of King David telling his people to stop judging some foreigners based on the weird shape of their dicks because they’re cool.

Also David’s first wife getting erased from history for calling him to gay for dancing around naked in the streets and handing out free flowers.

The House has passed the twin stopgap bills. All but 2 Democrats voted in favor, while 90+ Reps voted against.

Don’t know if the Crazy Caucus will oust this Speaker for “siding with the Democrats” again, but at least we don’t have to worry about funding most of the government until January and the rest until February.

Less than an hour ago, I was watching something on TV and during a commercial break, one of the ads I saw was from The Guardian that tried to emphasize that “Hamas is the enemy of both Israel and Palestine” with facts like how many civilians were killed, raped, and kidnapped by Hamas, and to not get fooled by less official sources of news.

Your thoughts on this, everyone?

Confirmation of Hamas bases existing under Jewish houses in Israel would certainly make for an… interesting test of standards. But for obvious reasons it’s not likely.

However, I would say the hostage situation does somewhat prove that it’s not only Palestinian lives Israel is willing to sacrifice to accomplish it’s goals.

In other fun news, Israel might be using up its good will.

Recent polling, such as one released today from Marist, shows that the public is shifting its opinion.

In that poll 38% said that Israel was going too far, up from 26% last month.

The shift overwhelmingly came from younger people, people of color, and independents. The latter of which had the largest shift by far. 28% of Ind voters said Israel was going to far last month, it rose to 42%.

Other smaller polls have shown the same picture. Americans, by and large, are souring on Israel’s response in Gaza.

Another polling bit from the Marist poll shows that a majority of Americans think that shutdown should not be leveraged to change spending, and that Republicans are getting far more blame for the fiscal chaos in congress. This goes well with some recent polls that show a majority of Americans would prefer “clean” spending bills without cuts.
