You know I always wonder when a artist like TJPones creates a piece like this and it gets posted onto the various Pony websites, do they anticipate big heated discussions like this happening because of their piece? :p

Cuban “universal healthcare” is a farce, their hospitals are underfunded, under-equipped, and unsanitary. Also Cuban doctors aren’t anywhere close to being on par with American, Canadian, or European doctors.

But I will do as the mods say and cease discussion after this post

>”was it better better than every attempt at communism or socialism in history? Yes.”
ah yes, because having a shittier healthcare than the embargoed socialist cuba which has one of the best healthcare is totally better

And we eschewed that lifestyle for actual societies, for the most part I’d say it was a good choice. I would prefer to not live in a society where I can’t have personal property.

The key difference here between communism and the American experiment, is that America was trying to improve upon ideas which had been somewhat successfully executed in the past. Mainly they were trying to be The Roman Republic with more protection for land owners and small businesses. They had a historical basis for their ideals.

But the MAIN differences here comes down to the fact that communism at its core, is trying to fundamentally change the foundation of the state with the end goal of destroying both it and the notion of social class all together.

America is simply a nation founded on the principal that The Individual has certain inalienable rights that they are entitled to. That the rights of the individual are more important than the collective.

But in America we already HAD rights enshrined in the constitution, I don’t think that any of the ideals espoused by the founding fathers are that far-fetched or even utopian in nature. The American ideal of equality is of opportunity, not of outcome, that is why they say all men are CREATED equal.

They wanted to have a society where the working classes had a mechanism through which to influence the way their government acts, and if that government ever should become so corrupt that it becomes totalitarian, that the people would have the right to carry the arms that would allow them to overthrow their tyrannical government, ONCE PEACE IS NO LONGER AN OPTION.

Now, is America perfect? No.
Was it better than every attempt at communism or socialism in history? Yes.

How is that a counterargument?
Seriously, the beginning and end goal of my last post was to point out that fallacy, and nothing else. The Fallacy Fallacy is only applicable if I point out a fallacy to disqualify points that counter my arguments, but I have more argument past pointing out a fallacy.
In short, I was being a referee in this circumstance.

The typical role of a debate moderator isn’t to get involved in the actual argument, as may be extended from a US News article this can also imply logical fallacies. “The job of a moderator in a presidential debate is to moderate, period. Ask the candidates questions, keep time. It is not the moderator’s responsibility to be a fact-checker. It’s a debate, not a press conference. Correcting errors of fact, or outright falsehoods, is the other candidate’s job.”

By saying something that isn’t a question to get I or the other to expand on an argument when a rebuttal has not yet been posted, or keeping us on topic any other action made is an entry into the dialog. Fact corrections or fallacy pointing-outing is up to participants.

To also double down on what is technically permitted by a referee or moderator, for Wikipedia’s on-hand definition of a debate moderator: “A discussion moderator or debate moderator is a person whose role is to act as a neutral participant in a debate or discussion, holds participants to time limits and trying to keep them from straying off the topic of the questions being raised in the debate. Sometimes moderators may ask questions intended to allow the debate participants to fully develop their argument in order to ensure the debate moves at pace.

In panel discussions commonly held at academic conferences, the moderator usually introduces the participants and solicits questions from the audience. On television and radio shows, a moderator will often take calls from people having differing views, and will use those calls as a starting point to ask questions of guests on the show. Perhaps the most prominent role of moderators is in political debates, which have become a common feature of election campaigns. The moderator may have complete control over which questions to ask, or may act as a filter by selecting questions from the audience.”

Or this whole article which I won’t bother pasting for obvious reasons.

communism is not an ‘‘utopian pipe dream’’ since it already happened, as Karl Marx knew, there was a form of communism before social hierarchy existed, which he called ‘‘primitive communism’’, Marx suggested that we at the start were living in stateless, moneyless, and classless societies while having an hunter-gatherer lifestyle, with common ownership of the means of production, this society can be seen in the iroquois confederacy, as an example
