That’s probably talking about mass downvoting (or whatever action) an entire tag, artist’s tag, or user’s uploads indiscriminately. And the punishment would most likely be a ban proportionate to the amount, just like it currently is.

That’s basically the dumbest system ever, this place gets thousands of uploads a day and I regularly upvote fifteen or twenty images on a single page of thumbnails.

Well, good on that, then. I still don’t think BPs should be allowed to comment at all, so any functionality that keeps randos behind a line is fine with me.

I downvoted that one, too; thinking an image is trash shouldn’t preclude or prevent having anything to say about it in the comments.

Definitely, yes. If censorship is bad in one direction, it’s bad in every direction; if artists are so thin-skinned that seeing downvotes genuinely bothers them, the only concession they should be getting aside from “The DNP list is right over there” is the option to hide downvotes from themselves. Don’t put things on the internet if you don’t want people to see them and talk about them.

When Youtube added the ability to give a thumbs up or thumbs down to comments, they didn’t mention that the Thumbs Down button literally does nothing
 
I think this idea of trying to keep everything as 100% positive is just a little misguided. Sure it might hurt a little if your image gets downvoted a bunch, but I wouldn’t want to falsely believe that everybody loves my image because all I see are upvotes. There are Youtube comments with tons of thumbs up that I see, and I’m like “No! That’s a horrible idea/way to speak to the creator” and I want to downvote it, but I simply can’t. My voice is silenced.
 
If you can find a way to punish users for spamming the downvote button, then nothing else needs to be done. The functionality is fine as it is and should remain.

I think downvotes should remain as they are. Removing them would be counterproductive to the scoring system - it will become obsolete.
 
I know you have the policy “accept all”, including really messed up people (some maybe even with mental issues), but catering to those who don’t like their images downvoted is stupid.
 
If an image is good, it will still get upvotes. If it’s bad, it will be downvoted. It’s as simple as that.

I’m pretty sure downvoting does do something… but comments can’t have negative scores
 
Because I see comments that get a TON of replies that should have quite a few upvotes too but doesn’t show a score (and I assumed that’s because there’s more downvotes than upvotes)

Oh and also, after taking the survey, I have to say I REALLY like the idea of preventing downvoting if an image is behind your filters.

Every time I’ve clicked on the thumbs down on Youtube, the score does not change, even after refreshing. In fact, if you refresh the page, the thumbs down icon doesn’t even stay highlighted. Try googling “Thumbs Down Youtube Comments”

Then why do I see comments that can be taken as negative but also I can see how they could be taken as positive that have ~50 replies that doesn’t show a score?
 
I’m pretty sure it just takes a while for the score to update… it won’t show it right away
 
Yeah, because I’ve upvoted a comment on a video that has like no views and I see no change then I come back later a few hours and I see the change

I know there are some comments that don’t have scores because they were before Google+.  

 
It updates pretty much right away if you upvote it, and it did that when downvoting still did something. The score doesn’t appear to change at all with it now.

Well, the thing is, I RARELY downvote comments on Youtube…. so when I feel like it I’m still gonna hit that button :P
 
I hardly downvote stuff on here too… I just don’t like the “negativity” of it

Yeah, so, anyway, I think banning for mass hiding is a bad idea… someone could just have 10+ accounts and want to hide an image on all those accounts
 
But for upvoting and downvoting, yeah, that should probably be banable

In general, I see hiding as a purely personal thing - it doesn’t affect anyone else, no one else needs to know - so even without getting into multi-account shenanigans, if someone wanted to hide literally every image on the site, I say let ’em.

Ah, there was an option of whether or not it should affect the score.. but at a quick look-over I can’t see an option to just not display it at all.. could have missed it, though
