I don’t think she’s there yet. Popularity power and/or creative appeal means that at least she gets focus. I suppose for you at this point you’d rather she be put on the proverbial bus and be gone from the show to prevent further damage to her character.
I honestly think it’s more fun though. Like, if all I said was “This was an episode in which Chrysalis showed up to cause conflict and some jokes happened” there’d be nothing to talk about. So I look at Chrysalis’ direction. What she says, how she says it. Stuff like that. I mean, should I not care about that stuff?
Like, I’m not saying that they have some big epic plot in mind for Chrysalis, I just think that there were several points where the episode highlighted that Chrys was kinda losing it.

I just love how Mean Twilight actually called her out for not just killing the Mane Six when she had the chance. God I hope she gets a Sideshow Bob moment and actually tries it later :D
While I definitely agree with her sentiment, I also understand why Chrysalis would be wary of doing that. Given how these were the ponies who defeated her twice when she had all the backup in the world on her side.
@Badumsquish
Late response but I get you. I get why people were turned off by her Freudian excuse (it did for me actually and it still does to some extent), her personality has changed since her reformation but I don’t think you want to hear all so I’ll just say I disagree with you there, and while I also found her reformation to be rushed, what the writers did to her after made me forgive it.
@gingerninja666
Still, both times her plan of “walk in at night and bonk whoever she wants to replace over the head because Equestria has zero security” was solid. I don’t think Twilight and friends even lock their doors, like remember this?. Chrysalis just got a bit unlucky both times. I kind of get the feeling they can’t let her be too competent, or else she’d win no problem. XD
@ILoveMyoozik
Also they permanently replaced a cool character with a lame one in the lamest way possible. It’d be like if they revealed Celestia was just a hologram run by Mayor Mare all this time or something :P
Let’s face it, when have the royal guards ever been good at their jobs anyway? These are the same people who abandoned their posts to eat a cake while someone crept into a Wonderbolt’s bedroom in Rarity Investigates.
@Spinny
That level of cheap writing always has irked me a lot.
At least make the guards try to do something and get defeated to show them doing their job and how the threat is more of what they can handle.
