And this is why people so often don’t understand what Balance of the Force Means.
The think Balance must mean that there has to be having equal users of the Light Side and the Dark Side but it’s a bit more nuanced than that.
As has been said the Dark Side is a cancer and there is no balancing having cancer.
The Dark Side is self-centered it’s about bending the Force to the users will and thus bending the world to their will hence “The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some would consider unnatural.” And that disrupts Balance.
Balance is harmony it’s the system working as intended Dark Siders seek to exert control over that system whereas a Jedi’s duty is to serve that system.
The problem is the Jedi aren’t very good at that because whereas the Sith are focused on bending the physical world to their will with the Force the Jedi detach themselves from it seeking a oneness with the Force but they detach themselves too much from the physical world often leaving themselves ill equipped to deal with the issues that plague it issues that the Sith are all too happy to exploit for their own ends.
For my belief Balance of the Force begins in Balancing oneself in being part of the world without becoming obsessed with it to.
There’s a whole spiel Lucas has about what is happiness and when you hear it you realize his talking about the Dark Side and how a Jedi should be basically.

The “Dark Side” is all about usage.

It’s attempting to bend the force to your will rather than living through it, and letting its will work through you.

That’s why the cancer analogy works well. Because if we’re all “cells” in the body of the force, dark side users are cancer cells that steal power from the whole to fuel themselves.

Lore varies, but it is possible to be an evil “light sider”, though the closest a dark sider can really get to “good” is pragmatic selfishness and not overtly evil.

If “The Light Side” is just regular “The Force” then does that technically mean all beginner as well as longtime neutral/non-aligned users would be connected closer to the Jedi or than any Dark Side Order even with no history or being notoriously good/kind/super caring or evil/selfish/generally douchey?
