ah, I see that this season’s barely been dug through, only after we dissect it all can we finally understand the going ons with what went wrong, what went horribly wrong and what went well.
 
I don’t even remember what was so relevant about the whole mention of tests in that scene either.

this is only true whenever lessons that she’s teaching others don’t resonate with her character, which I agree, there’s been many of those this season.
 
still, the idea is she’s learning and it’s not something that she couldn’t do even without the crown. In fact, the more I think about it, the crown she has is pretty worthless.

I would even add that most other openings / finales used to focus on all characters, not just Twilight.  
but honestly, I don’t even care if though if it’s Twilight being tested, I only hope that they make the story interesting, that is all they need to do to make it work…
 
If this season finale does absolutely nothing with Discord, Even after everything that they’ve done to make him a good guy and this big role he’s been given in the finale, I will be very disappointed.  
If all he is to the crown is just another soldier to fight, that would be just such a waste of so much character that he has.. He could make an amazing mentor for someone like Twilight, one that doesn’t necessarily teach her harmony, but how to further preserve harmony by being a better guide to understanding other villains’ methods much as his own, something very similar to what he hinted at when he pointed out the flaws in Twilight’s friends’ ideas back in this season opener. That’s what I hope they make out of Discord in the long run, not just some ally for them to dispose of at their leisure, not only would that completely undermine the whole reason he is Reforming, but it would even make that whole friendship aspect kind of savage, really.. it just shows they Really Don’t care about him at all.

just no.. there can be some excuses as to why she needed some further instruction to becoming officially a princess, much like how one settles in to a new job before they’re properly employed, but after she’s being given a freaking kingdom, Nothing will have changed?
 
I’m sure even kids will be confused by this.

REALLY great episode overall. One of the best of S4.
 
It had only one or two weak spots, like 1)Spike’s national anthem. Maybe not weak but…painful is more like it. Also the pyrokinesis part.
 
Now to be fair, Spike CAN burn things without his breath…but only if he’s touching them while really really angry.
 
2) I’m not sure what I was supposed to get from this moral at least from Twilight’s end. It wasn’t outright hypocritical like the others, but it still felt off.
 
Spike pointing out that Twilight is SEEN to never make mistakes (I liked that part because its true in S4, RD pointed it out as well Testing 1,2, 3, and don’t get me even started on Discord), Twilight admitting that she makes mistakes yet then Twilight told him he should just instantly forgive himself if no one else thinks bad of him.
 
That’s not right. Spike was just going through the right emotions, at least at first…even if nobody blames you, if you mess up you should be hard on yourself at least a little.
 
The reason Spike wasn’t easy on himself to this extent, or even when he saved thousands with something amazing, was because a long history of normal screwups, not being strong enough to help and, well, being blamed for many things that weren’t his fault. (Spike falls)(Twilight tells him to stop messing around)(rince and repeat)
 
Point is you don’t just shrug off something if you’ve failed at something. You have to promise yourself you can move forword and do your best until you realize you shouldn’t feel bad about it…but you CAN’T skip the humbling part of making mistakes. That’s been Twilight for most of this season…but on the plus side, I think she’s starting to realize that.
 
*But overall it was an excellent episode.
 
They didn’t exaggerate anyone’s faults at all, the interactions were really well done, it really showed some cool stuff, and it didn’t mess with anyone’s expectations. Heck, it exceeded our expectations.
 
The energy coming from Spike’s chest was so powerful it was glowing….they say a dragon’s heart glows when charging with fire, but we could see it through his body it was so intense. (like to see Garble and those other guys do that)
 
At the beginning Twilight was showing off to Spike saying ‘isn’t being famous great’, but then Twilight started to get jealous that she wasn’t in the stands with her friends instead of being in the princess seat. I liked that character development. Its a conflict that’s been building especially in the last few episodes that’s really good for her growth.
 
Rainbow Dash’s interactions with Scootaloo, along with the rest of the sisters, was extremely adorable. I really loved how RD and Scoots bounced off each other in the train. Like Kamina and Simon from TTGL, these two new badass sisters watch each others backs emotionally, its no longer just one sided :D
 
And Rainbow Dash pointed to Fluttershy for who was responsible for getting two silver medals? Really loved that as well. Plus the flying upside down part for Fluttershy at the beginning. Hehe, still half-vampire.
 
And one of the best parts besides Spike’s super flame was it showed that RD from Hurricane Fluttershy to the present was able to train the citizens of Ponyville to be even better athletes then those of Cloudsdale, even with the elites of the Wonderbolts on their side.
 
Heh, not bad for someone who was bullied and a dropout from Cloudsdale flight school huh? At this point, the Wonderbolts should be asking RD to be their captain. Not going to happen because the writers will never let her become a Wonderbolt, but still, WE know she’s better.
 
Really great character scenes from many of the characters. Loved it.

I don’t know all of the last comic’s direction with Celestia, all I’ve heard is that the love fest it granted with a certain alternate character seemed kind of pointless and just a soap opera type romance.  
Personally though, as far as I’m concerned and everyone here as well, IDW comics are the strongest headcanon that resides outside of the show’s source. This image should be evidence enough of that.
 

 
 
Speaking of Celestia though, I do have some rather unpopular opinions to share in here.  
The recent direction to me seems to be that Celestia is trying to rush Twilight’s growth, for one reason or another. Whenever I ask the question, why does Celestia want to rush Twilight’s ascension purposefully, by orchestrating an ascension for Twilight, with direct involvement in making that thing possible in the first place, I usually get some self-evident answers, simply because the show doesn’t provide any. That is to say, I suppose it doesn’t provide any as of yet, not that it doesn’t provide any answers, period.  
Does that mean the show does provide answers to most questions? not really, even as far as the pilot goes, all the events seem to only hint that Celestia was purposefully only laying out things for Twilight to pick on one after the other and then make a decision of her own, something that gives her the freedom of choice on the matter, one that she is well aware of what’s going to happen and instead of being confused by its outcome, embracing said destiny whole heartedly.
 
That’s something I was missing in this recent development and imo, the relationship between Celestia-Twilight changed quite a lot due to it. Maybe that’s just me, but previously when only hints were being laid down for Twilight, it really did seem like she was being guided and not hand held throughout her journey, where as now, everything is being handed down to her in the form of a task / test, with absolutely no air of mystery or wonder, or even a sort of test of Twilight’s will and choice.  
Think about it, if Celestia tells Twilight to do something, would it make logical sense for Twilight to say no? of course she wouldn’t, not unless Celestia went completely insane and started spouting nonsense. This is the biggest problem I have with this more recent direction in their relationship, it feels more like a boss-employee relationship, than that of a mentor-student.
 
it’s practically gone to the point where I just don’t care about it anymore and only watch the show all because of the individual episodes. Even though I don’t hold those episodes in high regards this season, I do hold them in much higher hopes than Twilight’s story as of right now, not to mention, Celestia’s character. Those two factors in the show seem quite set in stone and they’re just, not all that interesting anymore.

I think it’s attributed more to how the episode was distributed, because last I remember, the introduction was almost half the episode’s length.
