From a meta stand-point, you have a point. However, the details get a little hazier when you look at Russia’s record of human rights abuses.
 
America has a long history of it as well, but Russia’s are still on going and quite nasty. Severe curbs to the press, eraser of the LBGTQ community in the public eye, and the fact that Putin is a dictator in everything but name whose rivals have a habit of disappearing or dying.
 
Just to name a few of their abuses
 
Russia also puts us to shame with environmental damage. Deforestation and cheaply made power plants are an absolute nightmare.

The main underlying problem with the military isn’t that they’re violent, it’s that they exist to do the bidding of the bourgeois. You’re correct that a socialist revolution would need self defense, see the CNT or Rojava, but the difference is is that there use of violence is to defend the interest of the community at large, unlike the United States military which is there to protect the ruling class.
 
Regarding Russia, yeah, Putin probably would like that, but what makes the US worth supporting over Russia? America is the current superpower of the world, Russia is trying to become one. There’s nothing morally superior about either Russia or the United States, just two imperial powers competing against one another.

Warhawk conservative fuckwits want to send our boys and girls to die for stupid causes. Bleeding heart peace-niks want to sing folk songs and pick flowers while the barbarians storm the gates.

Officially he was physically unfit for service and therefore not a real draft dodger.
 
Also officially, he has a long history of lying about his health records on top of many instances of being a straight up conman or shyster and made himself yuge at the expense of anyone else.

Like it or not, even your utopia would require an army. The world is not safe, and will not be for some time.
 
I don’t believe we should intervene in every nation, and start wars willy nilly, but we should keep a strong defense.

Notice I said civil service. Civil service could be cleaning up waterways, painting artwork for beautification, tending to the poor, disaster relief, advocacy work.
 
Not that all the military does is kill you misguided malcontent. A vast majority of military jobs are non-combat. Systems, support, medical, technical, disaster relief (corp of eng, medical ships), science and research, actual defense, vet affairs, development, etc.

Just because you have children doesn’t mean you love them. I’m not here to psychoanalyze Trump too much, but given how he bragged about his daughter being hot, I’d wager that at best he sees them as proxies for his own status.

Honestly, I believe in compulsory civil service. Either military, community, economic, or cultural.

My father served in the military after high school. And while he wouldn’t recommend it to me or my brother, it was an experience that helped shape him into a more understanding and culturally rounded man
