The first page is from “Fiendship is Magic” which goes on to explain that the umbrum created Sombra to infiltrate the Crystal Empire, which is why he looks like a pony in his youth. He didn’t know who or what he was at first, though Princess Amore did. He found out later of course.
The second page is from “There is More Than One”, which is about an parallel world in which everything is the opposite of what is in Equestria, which is why Sombra is depicted here as a good guy.

Both versions of Sombra look like ponies to me. I’m not too familiar with the comics but even this flashback picture of evil!Sombra looks like a pony. So unless he became an Umbrum through a curse or some other magical reason, he seems to be a pony.

Sombra is not a pony though, he is an umbrum, or shadow creature. In that scene he enslaves and spellbinds ponies into waging war on their own kind. Different from the idea that ponies of their own freewill are relatively non-violent.

I think you’re forgetting Sombra’s army in the timeline where he succeeds. There was some pony on pony violence there and there was implied war violence like Rainbow Dash losing her wing.

I went back and watched that episode again. That incident involved a tussle in which the (unarmed) pony “thugs” were trying to wrestle a ring away from Daring Do. Once they had what they wanted, they left her alone. The injury appeared to be incidental, and not necessarily intentional.

The ponies have fought the changelings a few times, and the fight between Tirek and Twilight was like, Dragonball Z violent…
Pony-on-pony violence though seems to be more the result of carelessness than actual malice. The worst things ponies ever do to each other are crimes on an emotional or psychological level: control, manipulation, humiliation, attrition, false imprisonment, etc.
Even the worst pony antagonists seem to have some concern for the lives of other ponies, and all seem to possess redeeming qualities, which is why no matter how much a pony character might get on my nerves at times, I could never hate them.
Of course, there was that one time that Nightmare Moon attacked Celestia and was swiftly banished to the moon for a thousand years. So who knows? Maybe ponies are so ridiculously excessive in punishing violent crime that it almost never happens!

Also, what are your thoights in some minor violence from the series?
I seem to remember G1 saw various characters obliterated, shattered, transformed into glass (sometimes with threat of shattering), frozen in ice, and a filly in a Tales episode imagining ponies (when driven to desperation by famine) becoming horses of Diomedes and boiling one of their own alive.

I think the directors of the series have been mindful enough about keeping the violence to a minimum, and certainly pony-on-pony violence is rare. Ponies in general are relatively peaceful. Off the top of my head, I think the worst I’ve seen them do is maybe hurl vegetables at each other? Dragons like to roughhouse and yaks like to smash stuff. Other than that? shrugs

Chrysalis > Starlight Glimmer > Nightmare Night > Trixie > Tempest Shadow > Discord > Sombra > Tirek > Storm King.
If there are any other villians, I forgot about them, so they’re probably bad.
