Okay, to be fair, it has its moments when it isn’t constantly going for the lowest common denominator.
 
Now that we got that out of the way.
 
Outright? None that I can think of, lots of cartoons have implied though. I guess that’s all they can get away with. Even with Korra it was implied, very strongly implied, but still just implied.
 
Cartoons still have to adhere to the almighty ratings system. Gayness ranks pretty high in the “Lewd” ranking (no joke). So explicitly showing that, even if it’s something innocuous like holding hands or a light kiss, it’ll still be regarded as for “mature audience only”.

but yeah, I can see that. Kids’ shows aren’t like what they used to be in the 80’s and 90’s. You can’t even show guns on them nowadays, which certainly wasn’t a problem when Gargoyles came out.

Wasn’t there also someone on Gravity Falls? Again, only going by what I’ve heard since I haven’t actually seen that show.

I should probably mention that one of the guys that helped make “Family Guy” forbids his kids from watching it.

I’m not sure if this counts, but there was a spin-off of Author involving the rabbit guy (I think he was called Buster) interacting with people form the real world, and one of the episodes has a real life lesbian couple in it.

Censors in those days were pretty chill lazy. They’re on the spot now. This will sound a little social justicey but there is seriously a double standard by what can be shown when it comes to things like romance.
 
I’ll use Avatar for an example.
 
The first series ends with a 12 and 14 year old making out like they’re about to go conceive that guy whose voiced by Jonah Jameson in the second series.
 
And in the second series, we can’t see two hot ladies do the same because that would be indecent.

Actually, I tried watching American Dad the other day out of curiosity. It’s pretty much just Family Guy but with slams against the US Government. Just like how The Cleveland Show is just Family Guy but they’re black. Really original there, Seth.

Well, I’ve preferred American Dad due to there not being as many cutaways that infects Family Guy.

Yeah, true. I mean at least it doesn’t have a cutaway gag every minute, and at least it doesn’t play up the “fat guy with smokin’ hot wife” cliche as much as Family Guy.

If Zootopia has proven us anything this year, it’s that we can have good-looking anthro while still having them resemble the animals they’re supposed to resemble.

Another good thing is that unlike the Griffins, the son in the family (Steve), while still unlucky in love (or…I’m not sure on his relationship status, I haven’t watched in forever, but I think he hooked up with Toshi’s sister), isn’t abused so heavily like Meg.

American Dad is actually pretty decent. Yes, the show was originally Seth Macfarlane’s jerking off over his politics, but once he left, most of that garbage left with him.
 
There are overarcing plots, and the characters actually have development. Stan especially.
 
It’s kinda surprising really.

From what I’ve seen, it does feel better than Family Guy, though it has a pretty similar formula.

Interesting to see the evolution of a character. Hell, look at some of the classic cartoon characters we’ve all come to know and love and they look very different. Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd:
