Any opinions on how the tonights debate? I havent watched it just yet but from what I’ve heard kamala came out on top, which I really hope not, seeing how little empathy she has on civil rights issues.
 
It’s the first debate. It doesn’t really matter. The only interesting one was the debate for the low ranks just to see how they’re are pivoting to slide into a Bernie or Biden presidency.
 
The media class will make it sound important but it’s not. It’s too early really. It’s the first. Wait until things thin out some and the political positioning ends and we get down to raw cuts closer to the primaries.

Watching tonight, I’m not entirely convinced it’s going to be either of those two. Biden’s a surprisingly mediocre campaigner, and Bernie’s having trouble standing out now that his 2016 platform is everyone’s 2020 platform.
 
But, like you said, we’ll have a clearer picture once the weirdos and nobodies run out of money.

Don’t you know? Everyone with views more progressive than Ronald Reagan is part of the same cabal named “da left”, whose final goal is to turn the US into a Soviet-based dystopia, so what’s the point of making distinctions? /s
 
Some on the left support Gabbard, but a lot of self-identified progressives hate her for her Syrian policy and her past comments on abortion, gun rights, and homosexuality (plenty of left-liberal progressives are not anti-war in all or even most circumstances, and Gabbard seemed to veer into outright personal support of Assad). So Ebalosus’ remark may paint with too broad a brush, but it’s more or less accurate.
 
I’m not crazy about everything Gabbard’s done myself, but I don’t oppose her as strongly as others, although I’d vote for any Democrat. She’s taken flack for having ties to Breitbart and Russian propaganda outlets, and those are cause for concern, but I’m not intrinsically against appealing to the more noninterventionist circles on the right, depending on how it’s done.

Accusing someone of “being an agent” for Russia because they aren’t following the platform of their party is going right straight past what the real problem is and shoveling on the hyperbole until you can’t even find the original problem any more.

I wonder how many people think that the “SJWs” are still this all powerful boogieman that controls the media and the government, even though the Right has gained a lot more support and power over the past few years and Alt-Righters have a far more bigger internet and social presence then “SJWs”.
 
also for as bad as SJWs are/where at least they haven’t killed people, which can’t be said for the Alt-Right.

Conservatives have no shortage of political power, but they, and especially the Christian right, are unpopular with the public at large. On some level, they understand this; they know that most people aren’t as religiously pious and sexually prudish as they are, but they mistakenly assume that there was some Golden Age where they were, and so conclude that we must’ve been misled in the ’60s by coastal/academic/Hollywood rabblerousing.

Do the conservative trolls boosting the “unorthodox” dem candidates realize that they’re still helping the Democratic platform?
 
They may think that keeping the “lol weird” candidates in the spotlight is somehow going to help them, but it won’t.
 
They’re still boosting a liberal platform and a party that is pretty united in the “fuck Trump” camp. Voters they sway could still stay on the ticket even if they don’t get the nomination. It’s pretty much certain that dems will coalesce around their standard bearer. Any money they feed to a candidate is going to be stump money regardless.

Any help a Democratic candidate gets is fine by me. I might be ideologically closer to the party fringes anyway, but even with that I’d vote for Occasional Cortex over Trump if she could run. This is the real Flight 93 election.

*Six California officers shot man as he woke in his car  
California police have said a 20-year-old black man who was shot and killed in his car by six officers last week had reached for a gun first.
But Willie McCoy’s family has pushed back, saying the aspiring rapper was not a threat to the officers as he was just waking up.
Vallejo police had been called for a wellness check when a driver was spotted slumped over in his vehicle.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene on 9 February.
“Any loss of life is a tragedy,” police chief Andrew Bidou said in an updated report of the incident on Tuesday.
The police report does not name Mr McCoy as the driver, citing the ongoing investigation, but local media identified him after speaking with family members.
Vallejo is a city near San Francisco that has been the site of several alleged cases of police brutality against black residents.
