I got mine after 9 months of translating for staff. Like, any time a user has a question but only speaks an asian language I generally am the person who translates. For images I think I only translated like three or four dozen before I got the badge. Lots of stuff like this:

Some get it sooner, others get it later. The criteria is just “Helping with translating images from other languages.” So, if you want to get the badge, be helpful and one of the other translators might notice you and nominate you.

Quality of translation is important, so it’s not something one person can usually judge. And especially in our machine translating era, being able to work with idioms is pretty important. It’s more something that comes from the community recognizing that you are being helpful and creating useful translations and conveying the original meaning as well as possible.

It seems to me that there just needs to be some kind of threshold for getting this badge. Maybe something like “translate 10\50\200 images”. Then it won’t matter if a person translates their own work or someone else’s, they still contribute to the community.

Edit: Translating your work is also not so easy. Therefore, it would be fair if everything depended on the amount of translated text.

Translating your own work is just, y’know, customer service; I’d say the badge should be reserved for users who go out and find untranslated stuff that otherwise never would have been and translate that.

If Jewellier is able to translate their own stuff, though, that means they should be able to easily do the same for the mountains of other people’s art that gets posted here from VK.

No. It’s more for people who continuously work to translate text images over a long time.

I don’t know that anyone has ever gotten it for translating their own works. Normally it’s for translating other people’s works.

If I’m translating my own ask blog, running on Russian in VK, into English specifically for Derpibooru, does it qualify me for Speaking Fancy?

You should have received a message through ko-fi, things are normally organized through there. When you see it, it may be helpful to provide some more details, like if you want a certain expression (smiling at the viewer, grinning, blowing her whistle, etc) or even reference image if you already have something exact in mind.

I want a Coach Rainbow Dash Badge as a custom badge for being a ko-fi supporter, check the Derpibooru Kofi I just donated and the gold supporter badge.
