Well, I have been in contact with some Members of the European Parliament since today. I was invited to a round table. This is another step that makes me believe in the democratic process here in Europe.
But I don’t want to praise too much. Of course we have a lot of problems here in Europe. And there is still a long way to go before the EU really works. But what distinguishes us from the USA is the attempt to unite “cultures” and not only states. And by unite, I don’t mean do it right away. But we try to unite the interests of all people and of course the economy. It’s not that simple. Especially when some states are not playing quite fairly.
However, I firmly believe that we will build the first real, not purely centralist and above all digital democracy in the world on European soil. I know how much the Americans love their democracy. I will not belittle it. But often it is the case that the Americans separate more than it connects them. We are also trying to reconcile these differences here in Europe. Instead of always (heavy) arming us and scolding the central government.
Yeah, we scold too. But I think it’s to understand what I mean. ;-)
