@phoenixacezero
If his works was that shoddy, then considering he's a white muslim academic with a palestinian wife himself, that'd be shooting himself in the foot, not to mention a career suicide as professor.

Nah his works have all been nuanced. The guy has been meticulous in presenting his findings from both traditional islamic sources and western works.

The guy is passionate about his field (hadith and islamicate civilization) and is very good at it. However, dude keeps picking up highly controversial topics as his book subjects recently. He's got a death wish or something!

This is an embarrassing question to ask as I feel like it's something I should know about considering it's been all over the news but, what is critical race theory and why do right-wingers hate it?

@KikkoMan
Critical race theory is the study of all the ways racism and race relations are worked into society, and the problems it results. This obviously tends to annoy both racists and those who would like to imagine racism is a solved problem, two groups more prevalent on the right than the left.

Furthermore, more extreme wings of the movement (or conservatives exaggerating it) can make it seem like blatant anti-white hate, while at the same time denying that anti-white racism is possible. This naturally wins it some enemies.

It's an educational lens seen mostly in law school (despite what righties say, it's not common at all in lower education) that filters various historical facts and concepts through race relations.

An example I've seen.

- Teaching about the history of the GI bill and how it wasn't as good as it seemed is a standard history lesson.

It becomes filtered through CRT when you also discuss how African American and Latino soldiers were routinely denied access to the GI bill, or were not informed of it when they signed up for military service.

Again, CRT is almost entirely a lens in upper level law classes and some history curriculums. It's not this wide spread, all encompassing program that conservatives think it is.

CRT was first coined in like the 70s. But it literally was never mentioned in media until like 2017 or so, and in since March of 2021 Fox News has no joke mentioned it over 1300 times.

All the pearl-clutching over CRT is just the latest culture war nonsense because the GOP has nothing to offer their voters except distractions over the fact that the GOP has nothing to offer their voters.

The very thing that was fought against for so long, treating people differently based on the color of their skin is coming back. Segregation. That is a very bad thing and will create racists instead of people that get along peacefully.

"We can't teach that touching a hot stove is wrong, and we can't show examples of what happens when you touch a hot stove, because it might lead to a whole new crop of stove touchers. It will also alienate professed stove touchers and interfer with their right to teach their kids that 3rd degree burns build character. "

Since the CRT panic, like so many before it, was ginned up by right-wing propagandists who know that their marks will believe literally anything, yes, I believe that's exactly what we're going to do.

In more "Respect the Troops" news, the GOP's war on the military continues as now Tucker Carlson — white supremacist mouthpiece and trust fund baby who has never done a pushup in his life let alone served in the military — was triggered by 4 star General Mark Milley saying that it's important to understand racism and its effects.

After playing a segment of Milley's remarks to a House panel on Wednesday in which he defended reading a wide range of ideas, from Karl Marx on communism to critical race theory, Carlson laughed and said, "He's not just a pig, he's stupid."

"Mark Milley is the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He didn't get that job because he's brilliant, or because he's brave, or because the people who know him respect him," Carlson said as a Fox News chyron read "Military leaders push their 'woke' obsession."

"He is not, and they definitely don't. Milley got the job because he is obsequious," Carlson stated. "He knows who to suck up to, and he's more than happy to do it. Feed him a script and he will read it.

“I want to understand white rage, and I'm white,” Milley said at one point.

“Hard to believe that man wears a uniform. He’s just that unimpressive,” Carlson said, before adding “Notice he never defined white rage.”

I'm sure the voterbase of the party of Patriotism TM, who just love to drape themselves in the flag so much they'll defy the Constitution saying you can't wear the Flag on your clothes, are going to be up in arms over this professional haircut's blatant disrespect to a serving man of the military. Any moment now.

Gilda, Gallus, and Camp!
I am quite concerned about the Kashmiri Pandits, Hindu refugees who fled the massacres of 1989 and subsequent violence.

Currently, there are efforts to help the Kashmiri Pandits return home safely, but they are stopped by separatist or pro-Pakistani militants who murder local Hindus. Some were peaceful, such as 520 people who had proper housing compared to thousands of youths who lived in transit camps.

Others are more provocative: for example, after the murder of an activist by militants, a group of Pandit nationalists proposed military action against Kashmir to set up a separate territory to protect Kashmiri Hindus who seek to return. This led to outrage by the Kashmiri Muslims, who compared it to Israeli settlements and possible replacements by a Hindu majority.
